We have all had it happen. You unplug your phone, tablet or laptop and the cord quickly falls on to the floor. Usually it is behind your desk, under a table or another spot that is very difficult to reach. You might automatically set something heavy on the cord so it won’t fall. There are some commercial solutions but they aren’t very pleasing to the eye.
Introducing the Brick
The brick is a desk accessory that holds your cord securely but allows you to pull the cord out to plug in your device or push the cord in for storage.
How it's made
The Bamboo Brick is made out of high quality solid bamboo. Bamboo is a very durable, quickly renewable hardwood. To add holding strength Brick uses a .5mm thick micro suction pad. These micro suction pads have more than enough suction power to hold even heavy power cables to flat, smooth surfaces. They can suspend a granite tile in the air but won't mar the surface of your desk when removing.
The whole production process – milling, sanding, finishing, packaging – takes place in our home shop. This insures a consistent high quality product.
Kickstarter backers will receive a Bamboo Brick.
Walnut Kickstarter Backers will receive one brick made out of Walnut.
Uber Kickstarter Backer will receive one brick out of their choice of hardwoods. Whether it is Purple heart, Birdseye Maple, Bubinga, Cocobolo, Rosewood, Wenge, or Zebrawood - it's your choice. You can have it out of any available hardwood. Message us to see if we can get the hardwood of your choice.
Risks and challenges
The main hurdle we face is quantity. We need enough orders so that we can purchase die cut micro suction pads. This would increase quality and decrease the cost.
The second hurdle is finalizing the programing to cut out a multitude of bricks for a production run. This should be easily accomplished with the use of our full size CNC router.
The third hurdle is settling on a finish that is durable, environmentally friendly and easy to apply to a quantity of bricks.
The fourth and final hurdle is finalizing our packaging and shipping.
The shipping is for US Customers only, I don't have shipping outside the US figured out yet. The shipping is separate so backers can see what is funding the project and what is going to shipping the brick to them.
I am currently looking into international shipping but so far have not found a reasonable price for shipping outside the US. But rest assured, I am looking into it and if anyone has a suggestion don't hesitate to message me.
