Hero is a collection of three necklaces that references historic female warriors as a form of empowerment and a way for women to express their femininity without forsaking their strong presence. Each piece is made entirely out of stainless steel, which speaks to the strength and tenacity of battle armor.
From fantasy novels to video games, I had always been fascinated with the warrior image as a young girl. I would often times daydream about being one of those warriors, slaying dragons and fighting off my enemies. Whenever things got tough, it was this image I had of myself as a warrior that I would cling to for strength and comfort. It was a reminder of my ferocity, tenacity, and resilience, and that's exactly what I want to give other women through these necklaces. I want women to constantly be reminded of their power.
Each necklace is designed to embody the story and traits of a specific historic female warrior. It was very important to me to have every aspect of the design express strength and power, from form to material. Each piece is made up of bold, geometric shapes which speak to the rigidity and power of these warriors. Stainless steel provides strength and durability, while also giving an armored effect. The weight of the stainless steel around the neck of the wearer reminds them to be fierce, tenacious, and resilient in everything that they do.
Ferocity is the first necklace in the collection, referencing the Vietnamese warrior Trieu Thi Trinh. Lady Trieu saw her people being oppressed under Chinese rule and decided to rise up and rebel against them. With a ferocious gaze, she road into battle on a war elephant, wearing bright yellow robes and carrying a sword in each hand. It was said to have been easier to fight a tiger than to face Lady Trieu in battle.
The shape of the Ferocity necklace was inspired by abstracted elephant forms to symbolize the war elephant that Lady Trieu road on into battle. The two long prongs reference the two swords that she carried, one in each hand. This necklace is bold and daring, but above all else, ferocious.
Stretch Goal $2,400
If the stretch goal of $2,400 is reached, Tenacity, the second necklace in the collection will be released.
Tenacity is the second necklace in the collection, referencing Artemisia I of Caria. She was the Queen of Halicarnassus, but was better known as a naval commander and ally of Xerxes during the great Persian war. She made her mark on history in the Battle of Salamis, where the fleet of five ships she commanded was deemed the best against the Greeks. She was said to be decisive and incredibly intelligent in her strategies and had a ruthless sense of self-preservation.
The shape of the Tenacity necklace was inspired by the siding of ancient Greek ships. Each prong represents one the of the five ships that Artemisia commanded on the water. The repetitive nature of the design speaks to her ruthless self-preservation. When you put this necklace on, feel inspired to be tenacious in everything that you do.
Stretch Goal $4,000
If the stretch goal of $4,000 is reached, Resilience, the third necklace in the collection will be released.
Resilience is the third necklace in the collection, referencing Joan of Arc. She approached the military of France's King Charles VII and offered to assist in his efforts to expel the occupying English during the Hundred Years War. Though ridiculed and mocked, she persisted and ended up playing a key role in commanding France's army.
The shapes found in the Resilience necklace were directly inspired by 15th century French armory. The nine prongs represent Joan's first victory at the Siege of Orleans where the siege was lifted in only nine days. The layered effect of the design speaks to Joan's persistence and resilience. Let this necklace be a reminded that you have the strength to persevere, even when the odds are stacked against you.

Risks and challenges
As a student, this is my first Kickstarter and my first time fully manufacturing something that I've designed from start to finish, so I am still learning along the way.
All pieces photographed, otherwise stated, are prototype models and do not accurately represent real materiality.
The Ferocity necklace is currently the only model that is being fully manufactured. There may be risk in the slight variation between models, but for the most part process and materials are constant.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
