About this project
The Algarve Cup is an annual, invitational soccer tournament, held in Portugal. It is recognised as one of the most prestigious events in the women's game.
Al Bann Media are the exclusive global broadcasters for the United States Women's National Team (USWNT) games, of the 20th Algarve Cup, to be played March 6, 8, 11, 13, 2013.
We need your assistance to bring this coverage to fruition.
No other broadcasting company has ever been interested in bringing you coverage of the United State's matches. Our research showed us the USWNT has a lot of fans, many of whom, have complained in the past they can't watch the Algarve Cup matches. We happily took up the challenge, and got everything in place.
On December 15 2012, we announced we have the exclusive rights to air the USWNT games. Our investors gave us clear targets to meet, this included the amount of followers to gain on social networking sites. It was expected the interest would be more substantial than it has been. As a result, the funding was withdrawn.
We need £130,000 (GBP) to enable us to fulfil this project.and bring you the coverage of the four USWNT games. The money raised will be used to fund; filming, broadcasting rights, website and staffing costs. We are very close to the tournament, which is why we have given this a short turn around.
The coverage isn't regional restricted, so fans worldwide can watch each game.
The four games played by the USWNT shall be broadcast uninterrupted online, in High Definition. The USWNT will play China, Iceland and Sweden, as well as a final playoff match.
Viewers have the option of watching on their computer, iOS or Android device, or Internet-enabled television, via a dedicated website to be launched at a later date.
Each match, and exclusive features will be available to watch on demand. The broadcasted games will be accompanied by a pre and post match show, featuring discussion, analysis and features.
Risks and challenges
As we do not know what viewership to expect, we do not know what website streaming servers to use for the videos. We will be able to gauge the numbers better over the coming week, and can then pick the appropriate server. If in doubt, we shall just use the higher option.
Since our investors withdrew funding, we have approached others who have all said they will help us next year, when the audience has been established. So, by raising the required funds on Kickstarter, we are able to prove the support is there.
If any further costs arise, we are then able to re-approach the other investors, who would be satisfied and convinced enough to help us.
A final challenge we face, would be people attempting to watch each match more than once, or to upload onto a video sharing site. However, we have been told by our IT video uploaders, that they are able to put a system in place to prevent this from happening.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
