Frizzy is a platformer filled with awesome action.  The main plot is that you are a frizzy ball of fur who can latch onto static balls and launch himself around the levels.  That looks like this:

A quick note about this campaign:

One good thing about this campaign is that this game is already pretty far into its development.  You already get to see tangible evidence of its development before you start your support.  Team Frizz has been working together for 14 months and we know we can get this project done.  Although development is not completely finished by any means, we really only need the funding to actually get the game onto the consoles. We don't need any funding to create the game, just to handle the logistics and legalities of being a self publishing console developer. The benefit of this is that you can rest assured that if Frizzy gets successfully funded, Frizzy will definitely reach the marketplace.

Gameplay

Here's an extended gameplay trailer:

The most important thing about Frizzy's gameplay, to us, is the way the controls feel.  We believe that in a platformer the controls must be absolutely perfect.  We look up to the feel of classic Nintendo games from the 90's as our guru.  This stuff is hard to describe, but it is something that we spend a lot of time on.

The gameplay is based on solving puzzles. You find locked doors, movable boxes, destroyable boxes and more.  Keys are hidden throughout the levels, often behind enemies.  Keys work automatically, like this:

One of our favorite things about Frizzy is the way it looks.  We deliberately went for a classic look.  The textures are mostly flat and monochromatic, and we love the way it feels like a classic platformer.  If you don't like games like that, or think they look bad, maybe Frizzy isn't for you.  But for us, these graphics serve to remind us of an unforgettable time in game history.

Frizzy has lots of enemies.  He's constantly being bombarded by lots of different types of enemies.

Some move on the ground, flopping endlessly

Some fly through the air mindlessly

Collect Cat Coins to unlock Bonus levels:

And all are deadly.

Frizzy has a lot more enemies, but he spents most of his time collecting gems.  Gems unlock levels, and help Frizzy progress in the game.

Design an Enemy!

Our favorite reward is the $300 or more level.  For these supporters we'll open our ears and let them create their own enemy for Frizzy.  We'll work directly with them and our 3D modelers to create an awesome new enemy!

Somewhere on Fuzz Island...

Frizzy was minding his own business.  He worked in the fuzzball factory on Fuzz Island.  One day he noticed something in the clouds, something he had never seen before.  It was a ball of static energy, and he could tell from it's magnificence that only he could see it.

Forlorn, he thought of how he would never reach those clouds.  They're so high!  And he is so small.

For years Frizzy's Village on Fuzz Island had been tortured by an Evil Dragon.  His name was Doof, and once a year he would come to the island and attempt to blow all the pretty Fuzzballs away.  This day was known as the "Great Green Sneeze" on Fuzz Island, and every year all the fuzzy families would hide out and latch on for safety, or be gusted into eternity.

But one year something glorious happened.  Frizzy was dutifully working in the fuzz factory when he saw a bunny playing outside his window.

Hop.

Hop.

Hop Hop.

So he followed it.  But he had forgotten that today was the day of the great sneeze!  By the time he had remembered, it was too late.  He saw the green fog coming in and was swept away.

The Great Green Sneeze came and with its mighty wind Frizzy was blown high into the air.  From up in the air he could see further and clearer than any Fuzzball before him could.   Then he remembered!

"I must fuzzyfloat my way towards the ball of static energy!"

Like any other ball of dirt and hair, Frizzy is fully in control of how he maneuvers through the air.  He floated and spun and twisted and paddled.  Through the air he went, and he floated his way towards the ball.  Finally he reached it, and he found something amazing!

Frizzy could magically attach to the ball!

He looked down and gazed upon Fuzzy Island.  He wondered if any of the other fuzzballs had forgotten to hide indoors during the Great Green Sneeze.  For a moment he pictured his fuzzy family, and his little brother Lint.

The moment was interrupted by the foulest of laughter.

"Heauheauheuaheuhaeuau" yelled Doof the Dragon.

"You have discovered your power, but I have discovered you!" howled Doof.

"Who... who are you??" Frizzy whimpered.

"I am Doof. And you... ARE MINE!"

Frizzy felt the second sneeze only for an instant, and blacked out. It blew him further from his family than he could ever possibly have imagined.  He woke up on a platform covered in grass.

"This is the furthest from home I've ever been." Frizzy said.

Here Frizzy will stay, doomed to use his powers to collect gems for Doof for all of eternity.

Unless you can help him.

Our Goal -

To bring the best game possible to the most platforms possible.  We will work with every single backer to ensure that Frizzy comes to the platforms that are wanted the most.  A PC port(Steam/GOG/itch.io) is inevitable, but console ports take a lot of effort.  Frizzy is already approved as a title for release on Wii U, Xbox One and PS4, we just need the funding to make those things happen.

Stretch Goal -

If we get the extra funding we would love to publish Frizzy for Wii U in Europe!  We've already seen positive response from several media outlets in Europe, and we'd really love to bring Frizzy to EU!

We will work with community response to bring what people would want most, including EU Release, extra playable characters, extra enemies, more environments, or anything.  If there is something you'd love to see in Frizzy, we'd love to make your Frizzy dreams come true!

Developing a game isn't cheap.  Taking time off from your day job as a developer is a huge risk.  Here are some of the costs associated with the development of Frizzy.

($3000) Fees - There are various fees involved with publishing a game to a console.  ESRB ratings, and other ratings around the world can cost $700-$1000 each.  Localization and translation cause run an indie dev team $1000 easily!  We're running a webserver as well.  We're under contract not to talk about each platform's fees and prices individually, but suffice to say it is our greatest expense, and the main reason for this kickstarter.  This amount will cover all of the fees involved for all perspective consoles.

($0 - $10,000+) - We will try to pour every dollar possible back into the game.  If there is overwhelming PC port support, we will direct most of your support towards more models and avoid the cost of consoles altogether.  After fees and rewards, every extra dollar will go into making new content for the game, specifically paying 3D modelers and 2D texture artists to create new enemies and environments.  All of the artists Team Frizz works with deserve are professionals and every penny they earn!

Risks and challenges

Risk:

Team Frizz is already 14 months into development, and release is still months away. Our biggest risk has already been taken - to drop everything and make the best game we can. What's at risk now is:

Frizzy's well being.

Our Sanity.

Thousands of dollars in investment.

Challenges:

Frizzy has many challenges to overcome to fulfill our commitment.

We must, first and foremost, bring our supporters the best game possible. That will entail a lot of work on our part and we are more than ready for it. We've tested ourselves, and we know we have what it takes.

Graphics - Frizzy still has a lot of fine tuning to do on the graphics. The game is fleshed out, but needs to be tweaked day in and day out to really polish it off.

Enemies - Frizzy needs a few more enemies. We've got a lot, but we feel we could stand to gain at least 10 more on top of to 30-40 enemy types we've got now.

Porting - This may seem trivial considering that we are using Unity, but setting up developer kits, installing software, reading manuals... all of that adds up to a major time sink. Coding the port may only take a skilled unity developer a few days(... and then nonstop tweaking of graphics until release), but the paperwork and office work involved in establishing and maintaining contacts with Microsoft and Nintendo has already been immense. Brendan (foolishly) fancies himself a pseudo-lawyer nowadays, because of the amount of time he spends reading contracts and legal information for Team Frizz, inc.

After Funding:

Of course our first challenge will be to get everybody their rewards immediately! Believe me when I tell you we are very excited about giving out the rewards. We love Frizzy, and we love the people who love Frizzy!

After that it will be our pleasure to continue working day in and day out to complete Frizzy for whichever platforms the community chooses!
