My name is Gary Nicholson and I’m the designer of the Typographic Pun Posters.
For the past four years, I’ve been working in the graphic design industry, with a primary focus on typographic and print-based design; both great passions of mine. I feel that there is nothing more rewarding than creating something tangible and tactile that you can touch, hold, flick through, and even smell. These passions lead me to the original concept of the TYPO PUN series.

TYPO PUNS began as a self-initiated (and self-indulgent I might add) brief during my final year at university, with the intention of bringing smiles to my peers’ and fellow designers’ faces through (quite frankly) cheesy typography puns. In early 2012, I shared the posters online and couldn’t have anticipated the overwhelmingly positive reception they had worldwide.
Repeatedly, I saw my posters featured on different websites, with many asking where they could find, and purchase, a print. I was always planning to print them; however the amazing response exploded whilst I was concentrating on starting my career as a graphic designer. This, along with other life events, meant I didn’t have the necessary time to dedicate to producing the posters.

I believe I’m now at a point where I can finally do the prints justice, and that's why I'm asking for your help. I want to bring the smiles you received from seeing the posters digitally and share my love of typography as an art-form into your home, office or galactic fortress.
Over the past few years, I’ve explored many production routes the TYPO PUN posters could take. However, always at the forefront has been my belief that the posters should be of the highest quality, yet still affordable. After much consideration, the plan is to print each poster using an eco-conscious, waterless lithographic process. This will allow each design to be reproduced without any loss of quality and, most importantly, reduce their overall carbon footprint; which is something that I believe in strongly and will always aim to minimise.
For this campaign, the posters have been altered subtly from their originals for a more coherent finish, whilst maintaining the same overall feel. These amends include minor adjustments to the type setting, colour balances and the development of an overarching brand; TYPO PUNS. The latter is important to me, as the original name 'Typographic Pun Poster Series' was far too much of a mouthful, and I wanted to establish the TYPO PUNS brand as a separate entity from my portfolio website garyndesign.com.
This will also allow room for future development of the brand. My experience within the print design industry will allow me to manage the entire process, from production through to packaging, of each poster.
Once the Kickstarter has been backed, I will be in touch to confirm your choice of posters, or postcards, and your postal address.

Each poster will be printed at A2, on Fedrigoni Arcoprint Extra White, 120gsm, using an eco-conscious, waterless lithographic process. The posters will be packaged within a postal tube, with international shipping available. If a reward containing more than one poster has been chosen, multiple posters can be collated within a single tube to reduce the overall carbon footprint.
The postcards will be printed using the same eco-conscious, waterless lithographic process at standard A6 size, on 350gsm uncoated FSC paper. Each postcard will be double-sided with your chosen design on the front, and the back will remain clear for your message, with minimal TYPO PUNS branding. Postcards will be packaged in an envelope and shipped to your address.

Risks and challenges
My experience within industry production, alongside the litho-based print process for both posters and postcards will keep the turn-around time relatively short.
Posting and packaging each poster will be the most time intensive section of the process. However, if the project is as successful as I hope, I will be able to bring in some extra hands to help with the P&P and help speed up the delivery process.
As the campaign will finish in December, and Christmas will be upon us, post is likely to be a nightmare. Therefore the estimated delivery date* will be January.
*I will do my utmost to deliver them sooner, if at all possible despite the anticipated festive delays.
As this is the first Kickstarter campaign I have created, I realise adding stretch goals will make production and shipping more time consuming. I have, however, factored this into the stretch goal funding and kept these as achievable yet rewarding as possible.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
