Growing from the homemade toys back in 1960, to the professional fingerboards in 2016, fingerboarding has gained popularity, but its derivation and underground scene is unknown to many. Adnaan Chhatriwalla, owner of FireFlame Fingerboards, has set out to create a 50-minute film highlighting its impact on its enthusiasts. He will be traveling to California, Texas, and Massachusetts to capture its fingerboarding scene.
Fingerboarding isn't just emulating skateboarding tricks with your fingers. It's also a hobby that brings people together from around the world! Its growth has led to a large underground scene, full of people who share the same passion for fingerboarding as I. Competitions all over the world, such as Fast Fingers in Germany, are held annually allowing fingerboarders to meet others and compete.
Meet Kelsey Barker, one of the few female fingerboarders whose life has changed because of it. "I've gotten to travel to places I otherwise wouldn't have been able to go to and meet people I would have never met. I've also been fortunate enough to spread the knowledge of the fingerboard world to friends, family, and even strangers", says Barker.
Texas Rendezvous is the largest fingerboarding event in Texas, and one of the largest in the USA. Hosted annually by Kelsey Barker, this event garners tons of fingerboarders from around Texas, and the USA.
Why create a Kickstarter campaign?
I created a Kickstarter campaign to fund this film, and only this film. Sufficient funding will allow me to create a film that I want to create, without cutting corners. So far, fingerboarding has only had features on certain people, or "mini-documentaries". There has never been a true documentary on it. This campaign's funding will support my traveling, filming equipment, and softwares.
I had the idea to create a fingerboarding documentary back in mid-2015. No one had ever created a true documentary on fingerboarding. It had just been features on certain people. After I received my Panasonic GH3, I started to dig deeper into photography and cinematography; that's what gave me the idea to try something new! At that time, I didn't have a plan on what I was going to do. I had gone right into it without thinking what was going to be done. Eventually, it faded away and never started production. Fast-forward to 2016, this documentary is now in production. This time around, I planned out exactly what I wanted to do. I am in the process of writing scripts that my team members can view, and work together on. However, since I planned everything out this time around, I came across an issue. After going through the numbers and expenses for this project, I understood that I wouldn't be able to do it alone. This including equipment, softwares, and traveling. Once everything was calculated, I understood that I wouldn't be able to achieve this film without funds. That's why I created a Kickstarter campaign. This would allow me to create the film I envision. This will allow me to do exactly what I want, without cheapening the quality. This film will be a documentary, yet have the cinematics and styles of a feature film. Expect something completely unique!
I am raising funds to support this project, and ONLY this project, nothing else. The required funds will be used towards all aspects of this film, whether it's the filming equipment, travel, or software.

Risks and challenges
I am challenged in terms of traveling to complete this documentary. I require footage from places outside of Florida, which means I need to rely on others to film and send the footage to me.
Over the years, however, I have learned from my mistakes and understand how to overcome my issues. If any issue does occur, at worst the film will be delayed.
