The Problem: When a baby drinks from a bottle, the bacteria in their saliva contaminates the full bottle of milk. Shouldn't there be a way to block the bacteria from spoling the whole bottle? Not convinced that saliva enters the bottle? Watch how a drop of food coloring on the tip of the nipple rapidly spreads into the liquid.
There are approximately 2.5 MILLION bacteria in a single DROP of saliva! If you reuse the unconsumed milk, you are feeding your baby all of that unwanted bacteria. It also makes milk spoil faster! BUT, aLoo can block those bacteria...
Even after multiple "sips", aLoo prevents backwash!
And, aLoo is so easy to use, even a 2-year-old can use it! Meet Ariadna, the inspiration behind aLoo.
Now, we are ready to launch, but we need YOUR help!
The aLoo Story
Becoming a first-time mom was a life-changing experience. Although I was fortunate to have a supportive, knowledgeable group of parents in my family and friends circle, there was no way for me to truly understand the challenges and stresses of motherhood until my daughter arrived.
For me, breastfeeding was particularly challenging. When my maternity leave ended, I agonized over my milk production and tried to ensure I produced enough breast milk for my baby when I was away at work.
I could not believe that once she took her first sip, all of the milk in her bottle was contaminated with her saliva, and therefore had to be discarded soon after the feeding. I was frustrated by having to waste any of my precious, "liquid gold" breast milk. After each feeding, I felt guilty for reusing contaminated milk but also devastated when pouring the unused milk down the drain.
I scoured the Internet and found many innovative baby bottles, but not one that would address my issue. As it turns out, countless other mothers also struggle with this problem, which inspired me to solve it. Working with a like-minded, entrepreneurial friend, we assembled a one-way valve and a medicine cup into a homemade prototype.
After months of brainstorming, we created a 3D printed prototype that we home-tested using food coloring...And it worked!
With our newfound confidence in this novel solution, we sent a few samples of the device to a lab to perform microbiological testing and they confirmed that we prevented more than 99% of the bacteria from flowing back into the bottle!
Now we are ready to bring aLoo to consumers who share my struggle. Your support will help "Kickstart" the manufacturing process to offer aLoo at an affordable price. We just need your backing so that we can say, "GO!"

What people are saying about aLoo:
“aLoo fit nicely into the cap and nipple and did not effect the nipple from when they are nursing…I think it is fantastic!…anything that can keep your baby’s journey in their first year alive happy and healthy and most importantly a sanitary one is an absolute must have and not to mention the added benefit of saving those breast milk ounces that we all work so hard to get…” Jazz H. (MammaTried)
"It worked, it fit, it solved the problem! [This] idea will resonate with moms" Rebecca D.
"It's genius! It was easy to use and did not make a difference in the time it took to prep a bottle so I was happy to add it to the bottle." Sarah A.
We have received tremendous amount of help over the past year to get to this stage. I would like to first and foremost thank my husband and daughter for both the support in this process and sparking the idea in my mind.
In addition to our family and friends, we would like to acknowledge a few individuals who helped us prepare for this campaign. Specifically:
- Paul Matian for his videography and creativity to help us put together our campaign video
- Mindy Fay Parks and her son, Lochlan, for starring in our video
- mHub Chicago for providing us with a constructive co-working space
None of this would be possible without my business partner, Kapil Kalokhe
Risks and challenges
We have been in discussions with manufacturing facilities to produce our device. Although we have received confirmation on their ability to manufacture our device at the specifications and quality we requested (ie. FDA and CPSC requirements), we recognize that there is some uncertainty to timing of completion. We have projected a realistic timeline that accounts for creating the manufacturing tool mold and providing quality control. As we continue down this path, we promise to keep you updated on all progress and setbacks (hopefully none!) that may impact the delivery date. Thank you for believing in us...we will not disappoint!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
