Frequently Asked Questions
Will there be any language versions?
Some of our license partners will eventually publish our games in their own language. We will try to keep you informed through Kickstarter updates and on our website when this occurs.
lf you are a publisher interested in licensing any games in this campaign or in the Ion Game Design catalog for a non-English language, please contact: [email protected]
Why back us on Kickstarter?
At lon Game Design we fully embrace the Kickstarter path for our games making it the standard way we introduce our games to the market. There are several reasons to why.
• Community. First and foremost we believe in a continuous evolving relationship with our players. Through Kickstarter we can share the later parts of the development process with you all and open up for feedback and other involvement.
• Kickstarter exclusives. Depending on your pledge level, you will receive exclusive items to Stationfall that will only be available directly from lon Game Design as a thanks for supporting us.
• First access. You will receive your copy of Stationfall in the first wave of shipping, the same initial wave that is sent to shops.
• Good price. We always offer special Kickstarter pricing that is cheaper than MSRP.
• Honest shipping. We never charge more than the actual shipping cost for your order, with no extra charges for handling. We also charge for shipping in the pledge manager, so as to not further inflate your Kickstarter fees.
• Combined shipping. We always offer our entire catalog in the pledge manager to allow you to combine orders for cheaper and more efficient shipping.
• Be a supporter of our efforts for the benefit of all. By purchasing directly from us more of your money goes to us to fund our development, and by ordering up front we can have larger print runs and therefore charge less per copy.
Why aren't there stretch goals? What is backer impact?
While we have previously offered stretch goals on our campaigns to enhance components or create additional gameplay. We are focusing this campaign on instead engaging directly with you in the comments section. We will consider your suggestions in order to implement as many as possible. Backer impacts that change the game content will be communicated here throughout the campaign. This allows us at Ion Game Design to continue our mission to work directly with our fans on our games and keep our backers as an integral part of our game creation process.
Can I playtest Stationfall now?
Yes. You can access a draft of the Rulebook, the Tabletop Simulator module, and Print and Play files here: https://cutt.ly/sf-feedback
You can also join us on our Discord server to find players: https://cutt.ly/ion-discord
Can I add more copies?
Yes. If you want to add more copies of the games to your pledge, just increase your pledge amount accordingly via "Manage your pledge". After the kickstarter is over we will send out a pledge manager in which you can fill out how many games you’ve pledged for. You can also wait until the pledge manager and add copies of the games there, including potential add-ons and other games we have, for combined shipping. Any difference in cost will be added in the pledge manager automatically. Actual shipping costs will be added during the pledge manager as well.
Is it possible to make a group pledge?
Yes, see the question above about adding more copies. You will definitely save on combined shipping this way. In the pledge manager we are just adding actual shipping costs, no extra fees, and within Europe shipping normally is steep the first kg and then adds little for each additional kg. We do not have the final weights of the games yet so we can't say exactly how much, but backing together will save on shipping for sure.
Are there retailer and distributor pledge levels?
If you are a retailer or distributor outside of the US and are interested in securing copies of Stationfall then please send an email to [email protected] to get pre-order pricing and information about how to place an order.
If you are a retailer/distributor in the US then please contact Mr. B Games, [email protected].
Will the $1 level get me in the pledge manager to upgrade later?
After the campaign has ended successfully, you will all (even backers at the $1 NPC level) be invited to the pledge manager. There you can finalize your pledge by updating your shipping address, add items to your pledge, and pay for shipping costs. All games in our catalog will be available in the pledge manager. Then it’s up to us to get your rewards produced and shipped to you for you to enjoy.
Let me know about the actual shipping.
The actual shipping costs, with no added fees, is added in the pledge manager. You should not add them to your pledge here.
About shipping costs...
First, we constantly look for better solutions cost wise, using our network of warehouses, to be able to lower the actual shipping costs that you all pay. We feel that the most generous way to handle shipping and still be able to continue publishing games is to add no extra cost except the actual shipping cost we are charged by the warehouses. Shipping is a complex and expensive part of the board game publishing process. The cost to ship the games to you contains several parts that need to be handled and paid for, almost of which are paid for by Ion, as listed below:
- Transporting the games from the manufacturer to the port in China.
- Shipping the games on cargo ships to our different warehouses.
- Customs and governmental fees for the games as they enter the country where the warehouse is. (This is what makes a game [country]-friendly)
- Transporting the games from the harbor to the warehouse.
- Storing fees for the games at the warehouse.
In addition each step involves quite a bit of work on our end, but we add nothing to the shipping price you pay for that. Some vendors or Kickstarter projects have shipping costs at certain standardized levels that you pay. To be able to do this safely the cost has to be secured either by rounding the numbers up or making sure the price of the game covers the potential loss on shipping. In this case we prefer to keep such additions away from the game prices and avoid rounding up situations and just add the actual cost, and only the cost for the last step of the process. All of this means savings to you.
