Expedition Zetta: Day 10 - Vote on countries! + Modules Part II

Don't miss this!

In today's update we will write about two very good questions that been asked in the comment section; Which countries that will be included in the game as well as if you can add extra copies of the game to your pledge and how to do it. And of course you can also read the second part on the different modules you can use in the game. This is as usual after the main part of the update.

Add extra copies of the game?

A question that has come up is if it's possible to add more copies of the game to your pledge and how it would work.

The answer is yes! If you want to add more copies of the game to your pledge just add $59 for each extra copy via “Manage your pledge”. If you for example have a pledge of $68 (incl. shipping) change pledge amount to $127 (don’t change reward level). There is no extra cost for shipping when adding extra copies of the game!
After the kickstarter is over we will send out a survey in which you can fill out how many games you’ve pledged for. (This info has now been added to the project page under pledge levels as well as in the FAQ)

Which countries will be included in the game? Give your suggestions and vote!

As you all know, in Expedition Zetta, you represent a country. The game will include 6 countries, so that you can have a variation in the mix even at 5 players. Three of these countries are Sweden (of course ;) USA and the Soviet Union (the game takes place in the 1960's). You will now get the opportunity to decide the remaining 3 countries!

This is how we are going to do it:

- We have a list of nominated countries, and you are allowed to nominate new countries to these.

- The nominated countries are: Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Japan, Spain and The United Kingom.

- You vote by commenting on this update. Just write the country name as a comment.

- If you want to nominate a new country to the list (and vote for it) you include: "NOMINATING:" before the country. Example: If i want to vote for Canada my comment would be: Canada Example: If I want to nominate and vote for Finland my comment would be: "NOMINATING:Finland"

- This voting will run for 3 days. The countries with the most votes will be included in the game. In case of a tie, we will have a new vote between the tied countries. We are really looking forward to see which 3 countries will win :)

Thank you for all the input and question. And welcome all new backers and thank you for supporting us in this endeavour!

MODULES

THE ZETTA PSG

This is actually the heart of the game idea, where my first idea sparked. To make a game where you can grasp the incomprehensible amount of stars there are in the universe. 11 Zetta decks+1 or 11 dice accomplishes this. The factors they simulate are both based on real statistical knowledge about the universe and balanced towards the cariables used in the game. A tremendous amount of thought and testing has gone into this component, but due to its complexity to use I have chosen to add it as a module. It also introduce warp knowledge tokens to the game, that are used for changing cards while generating the system. This simulate the crew's growing knowledge about warp space. If you want to experience the full extent of my initial idea of the game, and actually grasp the complexity of the universe, you can by using this module.

CHARTING THE UNIVERSE

This is a pretty straight forward addition. It is a score pad for scoring, where you also can write down the names of the planetary systems you visit, if you use the Zetta PSG module. (All systems generated are also given unique names, so that you can return). There are also achievements in the score pad. The reason why this is a part of the advanced games is that it relates to the Zetta PSG. And also that achievements is usually something you bother about when you are more familiar with a game.

THE PERKS MODULE

This module is as straight forward as it is complex. In short: All perk texts are used. You find perks texts on Country cards, Spaceship cards, Exo Product Cards and Life cards that has intelligent life on them. This gives you a lot of added strategy and complexity in the form of extra things to consider. This is a very fun expansion but it is vital that all players are familiar with Expedition Zetta and have played it a few times in order for it to work well.

THE DAMAGE MODULE

With this module you can trade a longer stay in a planetary system for damage inflicted on your Crew. They can heal in the next system while others do discovery actions. Damage will limit their abilities until healed. If you want a bit harsher environment this is a module to consider. It also adds an extra dimension strategy wise. But for beginners it may be hard to make a good choice and see the consequences. If you want an even harsher environment, try the Lone Star solo variant of the rules :)

XENOARCHAEOLOGY

This is a module that adds a mini-game to the exploration stage. You can try to dig for alien artifacts and traces of their civilization. It is difficult, you need both Life and Substance abilities and a bit of luck. If you find something you may explore it and can make great discoveries. But at the same time it is dangerous and can even kill members in your crew. This is an expansion that I have added to the game this summer, with inspiration from a previous backer. I have had loose thought in this direction (who wouldn't when you develop a space exploration game) but I decided to actually do it this summer. It has become a very fun addition that is both thrilling and can be rewarding if you take the risk. And it adds well to the fantasy/story aspect of the gameplay too.

@All: Thank you for all votes and nominations! Just one clarification. You can only vote for ONE country. If you write down more than one country in your comment(s) we will take the first one you have written as the one you vote for. This included also if you've written both votes and nominations, for example 'Vote: China, UK. Nominate: Iceland" we would take that as a vote for China.

Note! If I/we have written something different earlier that is null and void. This is the right way to interpret how it works to vote, with the FIRST country you VOTE for is the one we will count.

@Jerry T About Sweden: The Sweden space agency was founded in 1972 and has ever since been relatively active, given its low budget. There is also a rocket launch facility in Kiruna in northern Sweden, Esrange, founded in 1964. Then have launched 500+ rockets since 1966 and 500+ high altitude balloons. They also operate some satelites I think.
But true, in our real history there were no space program in Sweden in 1962. However, the back story to the game is an alternative history where the warp drive is invented by a Swede named Dr. Borg in 1950, which profoundly affects both the coldness of the cold war (it is warmer and induce more cooperation between countries) and the speed of which countries form space industries. I will try to accommodate any result from this voting into my back story.

    25. Ion Game Design 3-time creator on September 22

@Jerry T Yes, there are some countries in the component images, but they are all from the prototypes of the game and we want (apart from Sweden that I want in the game and the given US and Soviet) to let you backers decide the remaining 3.

@Jerry T Wonderful to hear that you had a secret dream of becoming an astronaut! And even more wonderful for me as a game designer to know that I can provide some fragment of such a feeling now with Expedition Zetta. This is really what I want with my game design work. Provide experiences that inspire or bring joy. I can only imagine how it could have been for you to play Expedition Zetta as a child if it would have been around then. /Jon

As a child and adult I used to follow the space programmes and loved sci fi (still do) and still have copies of Amazing Science Fiction, Galaxy Science Fiction etc. Interesting that sci fi predictions were more accurate than scientists , except for alien races and a space drive that could take us to other star systems. I couldn't resist pledging for this game and a big secret (definitely would notbhave had family approval) exposed now, I always wanted to be an astronaut, like many others but was activeky working towards it with Maths , elctronics and gymnastics until a Motorcycle Accident at 18 forced me into a more mundane career. Hopefully I can relive the dream of being a British Astronaut 40+ years on.

The Campaign already has images of countries other than USA and the Soviet Union e.g. Great Britain, Spain, Australia and Sweden.

You are aware that the British space program began in 1952, they even launched a sattelite with their own rocket in the 1971 and many joint UK USA satellite projects were launched on US rockets ifrom the 1960's onward. I don't recall Sweden being active at that time.

    31. Leo Borg Collaborator on September 22

@Michael Roop: Only if they aren't already nominated. In the update we already suggested these countries: "Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Japan, Spain and The United Kingdom."

    34. Leo Borg Collaborator on September 22

@Jerry T: The country in the update that is suggested is UK/United Kingdom (sorry for the misspelling)/Great Britain, that is the same. So if someone writes either UK, United Kingdom, The United Kingdom or Great Britain (or any other version that's obviously the same country) we will count it as the same :)
