Hey Kickstarter! We're the Opportunes! We are Harvard University's oldest - and boldest - co-ed a cappella group, and we're here to tell you about our plan to record and release our 12th studio album.
This album comes after an amazing couple of years for our group. After qualifying for the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella, we advanced to the Semifinals only after picking up an award for Best Soloist (Kat Kearney, '17). This was just a culmination of a year that landed us a track on Varsity Vocals' "Best Of College A Cappella: 2015" compilation album AND a track on the Recorded A Cappella Review Board's "Year In Review" article as a Track of the Year. Beyond that, the release of this album will coincide with the Opportunes' 35th anniversary as a group!
Needless to say, we're pretty excited about taking to the studio and bringing together our history and recent accomplishments in the form of a 13-song digital album. But in order to do that, we need your help.
Recording an album is no easy job. It requires sound engineers, technicians, equipment -- not to mention lots of time and energy. But we've been through the process before and we know that it's all worth it in the end when we get to share the music we love with our friends, family, and alumni. That's why we're turning to you for help in making this plan a financial reality. As we proceed with the recording process, we would love your help and support in paying for:
- In-Studio Recording and Editing (laying down all of our tracks using professional equipment and software -- about $900/song)
- Mixing and Mastering (cleaning everything up, adding cool effects and putting everything together --about $2500 for the entire album)
so that we can put together an album that will continue to win over competition judges and fans' hearts alike!

Risks and challenges
Although recording a studio album is a big task, the Opportunes have successfully done so in the past and are well equipped to do so once more! While we have already scheduled time in the studio throughout the summer prior to starting this Kickstarter campaign, we are confident that we can work with our friends and supporters in order to fund this project to completion and release a full length album by the fall of 2015. To help you feel like you are part of the process and to understand exactly how important your support is to the Opportunes, we'll keep you updated every step of the way.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
