About

The Idea

The Little Building Co. architectural model kits are produced to look and feel as if they could have come from the architect's own studio.

Frank Lloyd Wright is without a doubt the greatest American Architect! Having a body of work spanning 70 years; Mr. Wright designed over 1000 buildings, 532 of which were constructed during his lifetime.

An architectural pioneer and creative visionary, many of his ideas are employed as core concepts used by architects today. His buildings are admired and revered for their attention to detail, the materials used, construction and overall planning. Throughout his career Frank (I think he would prefer I call him that) would often present his concepts with the aid of a model to illustrate different variations as his designs developed.

The Prairie houses and concrete block houses, one of his many public buildings, the Usonian Homes, Taliesin and Taliesin West, his American system-built houses, or his unbuilt and demolished projects; with such a great body of work everyone seems to have a favourite. If yours happens to be the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, that model is already available on our website.
Up next is Unity Temple, credited by many to be the first building of the modern movement was built between 1905 and 1908 from concrete. This is a model Frank Lloyd Wright would be proud to present.
 Design Development
Initially we work to understand which scales work for the buildings we create models of, as the size and mass differs considerably from domestic to public buildings.

Working from photographic references, drawings and books; we study the building in full detail. Our objective is to make a model kit that is thoughtfully engineered, beautifully detailed and simple to assemble. When developing our idea, modelling the building in 3D helps us understand its form before we start to work out the various components and how they intersect. Many of the components are cut countless times trying to resolve the neatest and most appropriate solution for each and every connection.
We source and test a variety of materials including paper, cardstock, timber and acrylic - anything suitable while trying to arrive at the most authentic representation for both the model and the building itself.

 Your Contribution
We have reached our capacity. The laser machine we work with is used for developing prototypes and producing kits, and we can't do both at the same time.
Developing our models is a time-consuming process with hours spent resolving the construction and assembly details.
Having only one machine it’s difficult to produce and process orders while at the same time developing and prototyping new models. Because of this, the invested funds from this Kickstarter campaign would go towards the purchase of new equipment in an effort to work simultaneously and more efficiently during the development and production phases.

  The Rewards
We think the process of building the kit is equally as important as the finished product.
We also understand that you might want to give the model as a gift and might not have the time to build it yourself. Don't worry we have rewards to cover your needs.
