These days, anyone can plunk themselves down on their couch, flip a switch, and watch a movie on TV or any device. Yes, it's convenient. But it's hardly a cinematic experience.
At PreShow, we believe Big Screen equals Big Life! Larger. Louder. Distraction-free. The highest technical quality available. Totally optimized for sensory reception. It's also fun. And social. You're in a theater, you're with friends, surrounded by other people, and everyone is sharing the same experience - together - reacting to it in real time.
Pre-Show makes attending the cinema more accessible and affordable, and it's hassle-free.
WELCOME TO PRESHOW
PreShow is the first ad-supported moviegoer network. It's "invitation-only". Anytime a product or service is "invitation-only" it raises the obvious two questions - how does one get invited, and who gets invited first? The PreShow platform is "kickstarting" itself exclusively through this campaign. This is the Private Launch.
All those who back this campaign will be first to receive access to PreShow, to enjoy free movies, and other benefits. Backers also have an exclusive ability to invite their friends.
HOW PRESHOW WORKS
It couldn't be any easier:
- We send you a unique computer-generated code (when it's ready, after the campaign).
- You download the PreShow app, and insert your code.
- You answer a few questions.
- You receive a virtual card (like a credit card without the plastic).
- You're in! Preshow is now ready to use.
To use PreShow:
- Select the movie you want to see.
- A 15 to 20 minute PreShow video of branded content will be sent to your device.
- Watch the PreShow video.
- Upon completion, your virtual card is credited.
- Purchase your movie ticket, in advance, in the same way you normally would.
Important to Note:
- You can choose any 2D film playing at any theater.
- Saturday nights? Opening weekend? No problem. There are no blackout periods.
- There is no credit check to receive the virtual card - every adult who is invited, is approved.
- Since the card is "virtual" - you get the number, but not the plastic. You can't lose it.
- The card has embedded code. It is only for the redeeming of movie tickets.
- PreShow is iOS and Android compatible, even during the initial launch, at all levels.
- Your PreShow account is unique to you; using our proprietary facial identification software.
- Privacy is a top concern. Nobody is recorded, no personally identifiable data is shared, all data is aggregated and anonymized to brand partners. If a member chooses to opt into a brand offering, they will be connected directly to the brand. (A provisional patent has been filed for the technology. )
- You can start and stop the PreShow video whenever you like. The motion detector automatically pauses playback if you have to step away. You can resume watching anytime at your leisure.

ABOUT THIS PRIVATE LAUNCH
This PreShow Private Launch is a closed beta, available only by invitation through this Kickstarter. To accept the invitation, simply select one of the three Rewards.
The PreShow Private Launch "rolls out" in three waves. Each Reward invites you to participate in a different wave, and includes a different quantity of free PreShow invites for your friends. Your friends will receive their invitations after the Private Launch concludes (unless they also back this Kickstarter).
Wave 1 (Founders Circle) - this is the first group to have access to the service and give initial feedback - commencing approximately July 2019, includes 30 friend invites; Reward level of $60.
Wave 2 (Benefactor) - this is the second group to have access to service and give feedback - commencing approximately September, 2019, includes 10 friend invites; Reward level of $25.
Wave 3 (Patron) - this is the third group to have access to service and give feedback - commencing approximately November, 2019, includes 5 friend invites; Reward level of $15.
After the 3 Waves: Once all of the waves have been completed, the Founders Circle group (Wave 1) can invite their friends, followed by the Benefactor group (Wave 2), followed by the Patron group (Wave 3). No one from the general population will have access to the service before you (and soon after you, your friends).
WHY PRESHOW WORKS
PreShow is an ad-supported moviegoer network for fans of cinema that offers unquestionable value which is also structured to work better for consumer brands than most of their traditional advertising.
- For those who enjoy attending the cinema, it makes the process affordable and accessible - without hassle (see sample app screens, just below). This makes it easier to attend the cinema more often. It's also a platform built on collaboration, community, and value - and above all, privacy.
- For the cinemas, it is an additional revenue stream to create lift, in an era where consumer options have multiplied.
- For consumer brands, it is a new way to efficiently offer creative branded content to a targeted viewership - much in the same way they might sponsor a podcast, or engage with a film though product placement.
ABOUT THE PRESHOW VIDEO
Each PreShow video is 15 to 20 minutes in length and features 3 or more participating brands. The video is high quality, entertaining, and is an entertainment value in and of itself. PreShow has already conducted detailed focus groups about the video, and will continue to amass data, hopefully some of it from you. Over time, PreShow videos will become still more creative, interactive, and value-centric - offering sampling opportunities, test-drives, and discounts. No individualized information will ever be shared; privacy is always protected above all.
Although there are no "requirements" to participate in this Private Launch, we hope you'll take time to share your experiences nonetheless, and occasionally respond to a survey. If you had a good experience we want to know, if you encountered something that should be improved, we want to know that as well, so we can troubleshoot the issue, and optimize your experience.
Says Stacy: "I love attending the cinema. And who doesn't love 'free'? We've been working hard developing PreShow. It's been in stealth mode until now. During this time, we have developed our intellectual property, largely built the technology, canvassed theaters, advertisers, and most important - filmgoers. We've tested the platform every step along the way. It's brought us here … and now, we need your help.
Years ago, I was an original co-founder of MoviePass. Although I learned that there was large latent demand for attending movies in theaters that would be unlocked if there was a real value-based platform for it, I also learned that such a platform needed to prioritize a consistent and sustainable business model.
PreShow will always be protective of your privacy above anything. It will become an increasingly collaborative platform, that builds trust through a user community. Kickstarter has done the same, which is why we chose Kickstarter as the vehicle for our Private Launch. You've no doubt heard the term "experiential economy." MEET THE TEAM
Stacy Spikes - CEO
Stacy is a film and technology entrepreneur. He was the original founder and CEO of MoviePass, as well as the founder of the Urbanworld Film Festival, now the largest minority film festival in the world and an Academy-qualifying event. He has also held senior executive roles at Motown Records, Sony Music Entertainment, and Miramax Films. He was named one of the "25 Most Influential African-Americans In Technology" by Business Insider, and just weeks ago, was listed among USA Today's "21 influential black professionals in tech."
The Preshow Team:
BUDGET, TIMELINE, USE OF PROCEEDS
Operations includes virtual card-related software, user interface, and professional services (legal, etc.). Development includes platform build-outs, support, and troubleshooting. Staffing includes a range of positions with an emphasis sales and customer service. COGS (cost of goods sold) includes all overhead and infrastructure - see the FAQ's for more. Fees include Kickstarter fees, credit card processing fees, and administrative fees (for this campaign). The estimated timeline is - first wave has access in July 2019, second wave has access in September 2019, third wave has access in November 2019. Friends of the first wave have access in early 2020, and so on.
PreShow came to Kickstarter to remain independent, to prioritize user experience by collaborating with a base of early adopters, and to engage with a community of avid filmgoers. What better place for us than Kickstarter, where communities are forged and fostered every day?

Risks and challenges
Launching a new platform with the aspiration to change how many Americans attend movies in theaters would be a daunting task. But this Kickstarter is occurring after much of the work is already done. The remaining scope of work, budgets, and timelines are reasonable. And Stacy has had a great deal of experience - it's not his first rodeo, so to speak. We believe that after the conclusion of this campaign, all reward deliveries will happen and deliveries of those rewards - Preshow videos, and movies for free - will commence on time, as will subsequent deliveries shortly thereafter - for the friends of backers.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
