The journey continues!

On June 27th, 2 caterpillars head towards the top of their "castle." I've been cleaning their "castle" every 12 hours and been giving them fresh milkweed cuttings for days.

They hang up side down and look like the letter "J"  to get ready for the next transformation.

Now the magic begins! Just before the transition, their black antennae shrivel up and go limp. Then they uncurl and straighten up a bit.

Suddenly, we saw a small slit open along the back and a gooey-looking green blob appear within.

AMAZING! It looked as if some invisible hand was unzipping the caterpillar. At that point, we named him "Ripley" from the movie "Alien."

At the end, it spun around to rid itself of its caterpillar skin.

Over the next few hours, it slowly shifted to form the perfect chrysalis shape.

By July 3rd, we had 38 chrysalises!
