Contemporary Filipino American Art
Filipino American Artist Directory is a living archive and annual publication dedicated to artists of Filipino heritage living and working between the United States and the Philippines, with particular focus on artists based in the Midwest and South. Founded in 2015, the directory is an independent, artist-run initiative that aims to:
- Increase the visibility and recognition of Filipino American visual artists and promote our inclusion in museums, galleries, collections, and publications
- Serve as an educational resource for students and teachers
- Create community between artists, curators, and writers
With our first successful artist book launched in February 2017, our second book is scheduled to be released by February 2018.
This year's directory will feature 60 contemporary Filipino American artists from across the country. The directory will be 100 pages printed in full color, featuring artist work, biographical information, and catalog essays from contributing curators and writers.
We're happy to introduce this year's roster of artists, curators, and writers contributing to the 2017 publication, representing 28 cities in 12 states, as well as the Philippines and Canada.

We can't make this book happen without your support. A printed publication has a number of specific expenses that require funding far beyond our everyday budget. Here is a breakdown of costs to make the impact of your donations as transparent as possible.
- Publication costs (100 books minimum, including UPS ground shipping): $1500-1700
- Writers' honorariums: $750
- Backer rewards (including stickers, postcards, and posters): $300-500
- Book shipping costs (including envelopes and media mail postage): $300
- Kickstarter fee (5%): $175
- ISBN code and title registration: $150
The bare minimum we need to make this happen is $3,500, but a little extra gives us the ability to push mountains a little further. Thus, we've also outlined a few STRETCH GOALS that can help us reach a wider audience:
- STRETCH GOAL #1: $4,000 can publish 150 books
- STRETCH GOAL #2: $4,500 can publish 200 books
- STRETCH GOAL #3: $5,000 can publish 250 books (our ultimate goal!)
This fundraiser will determine how many books we'll have available the coming year. Once the Kickstarter has been completed, books will be capped in a limited edition between 100 and 250.
Now for the best part!
All contributions will receive a shoutout on our social media and will be listed a contributor in the book. Check out the rest of the rewards you can receive at each level:
We love stickers—and Spam! We'll send you a 3x3 vinyl die cut FILAM sticker at the Spam Level, which is also included with every book.

Ensaymadas are back this year! Inspired by the film The Women of Malolos (2014) directed by Sari and Kiri Dalena, Janna Añonuevo Langholz started baking ensaymadas the way they were made in the 1800s—as big as a cake, "best eaten with tsokolate," and topped with real queso de bola. Three giant ensaymadas are available at the Ensaymada Level. It actually does take at least a week to eat one of these.
*Giant ensaymada shipment can be scheduled anytime in 2018. An additional priority shipping fee is added to ensure speedy delivery.
*Allergy warning: Gluten, lactose

Risks and challenges
Although we don't forsee too many risks or challenges with this project, there can always be unexpected delays with printing or shipping. We'll be doing the best on our end to have completed the process and start shipping out backer rewards by February 2018. Backers will be notified with updates and any changes to the schedule.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
