Thank you all so much for your continued support!
We are at 92%––The home stretch! Only SIX days to go! So what happens if we go over our goal of $5,600? STRETCH GOALS!
$6,600.00 - Editor
As of now, I will be editing the project myself, but hiring an outside editor would be hugely beneficial. Here's why: As the director, I know too well how hard we work on each shot and scene, so I would want to keep all of it in the project even if a shot or scene is hurting an episode. Essentially, I'd love to have an editor who can brutally cut a bad shot even though it took us all day to shoot in the rain.
$7,600.00 - Get the Series Seen
This means getting the ball rolling with Vimeo, Festivals, iTunes, Netflix, Amazon, Video On Demand, Theaters, Television, Oscars, Tonys Lifetime achievement awards, and who knows where else!
If we get $7,600.00 everyone who has pledged at least $15.00 will get a koozie in addition to the reward they've already selected!
Here's a mockup!
Thanks again everyone! And keep telling your friends and sharing!
Thank you so much for visiting our Kickstarter page! Making this series-of-short-films (as I insist on calling it) is such an amazing opportunity. I’ve been working on it for almost three years. I’m really grateful and excited that Temple University awarded the series a couple grants that got us started towards our budget, but we need your help.
Come July 21, we’re shooting the entire first season (five 10-12 minute episodes) of Gunner Jackson in 11 days. We have 70 pages of script to shoot–so like one of the really long episodes of Mad Men or a really short kids movie. Point being, we have a lot to shoot in those 11 days and it takes a lot to get all of the right people, places, and things (that’s right, nouns) together at the right time.
I’m so excited about this project and thank you, sincerely, for your support.
So what happens in the story?
Good question! Here’s the–I promise it’ll be brief–synopsis:
Gunner Jackson is a series of five short films that follow Jason Gunner Jackson, a 26-year-old inventor, on his daily adventures and his journey to prove that he is the subject of U.S. Government surveillance.
His brother thinks he’s gone off the deep end, his intern supports his delusion, his mentor loves his passion but wants him to focus his argument, and the woman that is actually spying on him might end up being his closest ally.
This all culminates when Gunner gathers everyone together under the guise of his mentor’s retirement party, in which he stages a dramatic presentation of the evidence that will “prove” he is an important target of the U.S. Government.
Yeah, but what’s it really about?
Wow, another great question! How about this:
If the government is watching everyone, what’s different about Gunner is that he thinks he is being payed attention to.
Instead of asking, “Are we all being watched?” Gunner Jackson asks: “What convinces a person that they, personally, are being watched?” If Gunner’s external mission is to prove to everyone around him that he, personally, is being surveilled, his internal mission is to prove to himself that he is being surveilled.
In other words–is being surveilled Gunner’s worst nightmare or ultimate fantasy? Perhaps Gunner is motivated by the fear that no one is watching him at all.
Here’s what the movies will look like (more photos on: http://www.gunnerjacksonfilms.com ):
Here’s a tiny sample demo of what the movie will sound like (from our Composer/Arranger, Dean Elmore!):
I am incredibly grateful to have received a couple of grants from Temple University to kick off our fundraising, but we still have a ways to go to meet our basic budget for the project.
We are lucky to have access to some incredible equipment through Temple, but there are a lot of really exciting (see production design!) and super boring (see transport/equipment) costs we still need to cover, not to mention paying our amazingly talented actors!
We are putting our art degrees and printmaking skills to good use to bring you some amazing Gunner Jackson movie swag!
With original designs by Christian and Julie, some of the items are featured within the series, like Gunner Jackson's tattoo of "THE EYE" and his limited edition, proprietary "Schemes and Observations" notebooks.
The hand printed silkscreen shirt and koozies feature Gunner Jackson's (Christian's) cat, Birdman Kitty, in a gas mask and an original drawing made for the film.
You can also get a hard copy of the series - a custom printed Blu Ray disc in a hand made, hand printed case with liner notes and lots of extra features.
We will also have an annotated copy of the full script, filled with shooting notes, silly jokes, and funny pictures by Christian and the crew.
