About this project
Average Americans are facing many problems today, from rising home and gas prices, too facing unjust laws. In sea to shining sea I intend too confront these problems by taking a road trip across the country and documenting real stories of success, failures, and visions of a better tomorrow.
If you own a car your wallet has probably felt a little lighter recently due to the rising prices of gasoline. Researching for this documentary I have discovered there are many alternatives to gasoline already available. I intend too prove that America does not need to be addicted to foreign oil, and ill start with my own vehicle.
I intend to travel in an old Volkswagen bus, only it won't run on gasoline. The bus will run on some diesel but mostly used vegetable oil. The major need for funding is the van, and it's modifications. I will need to buy not only the van but a rebuilt diesel engine and a waste vegetable oil system.
One of the most detrimental issues in our environment is the production of fossil fuels. Whole ecosystems are being destroyed by strip mining, and oil spills, and these stories continue to go untold. At the same time there many people dedicating their lives to alternative energy.
In my research I have discovered there is a plant that can not only be used as fuel, but has over one thousand other uses as well. While hemp can be purchased in the united states it is illegal to grow.Hemp is perhaps the most misunderstood plants there is. Perhaps if people knew the uses of it and that you can not get high from it they would demand legalization of cultivation.
I hope to shed light on the issues of mountain top removal, and strip mining for coal, as well as the problems from natural gas. To many people do not understand environmental impact from the search for fossil fuels.
As a college student I am well aware of the growing cost of tuition. While I am currently in the process of pursuing my dream by creating this documentary, many students graduating from college have so much debt they are forced to take the first job, or highest paying job offered to them, and perhaps will never get to fully pursue there life goals.
Another issue plaguing young Americans is lack of health care. Recently the fight over health care has made it all the way to the supreme court. But is the current health care system in America adequate? And with New York Times polling 47 percent of Americans disapproving of Obama care would it really be good for this country? I plan to answer this question by interviewing not only American's but Canadians as well.
By the time I have traversed the country I will not only have created a film, but also gathered research and data about issues facing this country. It is very likely that I will be left with more questions then answers about why the countries policies are the way they are which is why I will make may last major stop where the decision makers live. By the time I arrive in Washington I hope the project will have gained support and followers through the website and video blogs. I hope to use this attention to get interviews with politicians. It will be nearing election time and there is a possibility that I can get the attention of the presidential candidates by proving this project is a forum for them to speak directly about issues that real Americans face and what they plan to do about them. While I admit it is highly unlikely I will get an interview from the president of the United States nothing is impossible. One idea to get his attention is I will ask my supporters to call and write to Barrack Obama as well as post youtube videos asking him to give me an interview. Who knows it could happen.
The website I create for this project will not only serve as a way to generate interest and support for the project but it will be a new kind of social networking site. I will encourage people to post there own stories, and stories of people they know on the site. People can post videos, writings, and pictures on the site, and some of these stories I will use as inspiration, by visiting the people involved.
I will create a short video explaining what am I try I am trying to do and release it on Kickstarter soon.
Please help me bring the American Dream to your video screen.
