About this project
The Go Solar Gloves are the brainchild of Mark Fletcher and Nate Johnson. We realized that certain phone applications (we're looking at you Pokemon Go...) totally drain phone batteries. The solution that we came up with was a primitive version of the solar gloves. After refining our design we are ready to launch our gloves to the world.
The Go Solar Gloves are gloves that have an attachable solar charger battery pack. We designed them as a convenient way to charge a cell phone while on the move. After experimenting with a couple of different prototypes, Mark and Nate settled on the current design featuring machine-washable workout gloves and a 5200 mAH battery pack (with an integrated .6 W solar panel).
The gloves - comfortable exercise gloves made from a lightweight synthetic material. We wanted the fingertips to be open in order to make touching the phone screen more convenient.
The solar battery pack - a 5200 mAH lithium-ion rechargeable battery that includes a built-in .6 W solar panel that can charge the battery from sunlight. The battery can charge a standard iPhone 6 battery from 0 to 100% approximately 2.8 times from full capacity. The battery pack needs about 8 hours of sunlight to charge to full capacity. The battery pack can also be charged from a standard wall outlet via USB adapter.
We have had a blast working on this project! Seriously, thank you for supporting our project!
Risks and challenges
Every project comes with some degree of difficulty. In order to ensure a timely arrival of our backer rewards, we have spent the last four months ordering samples from manufacturers and testing the product quality rigorously. We have very accurate data on our unit costs and we feel confident that we can deliver to all of our backers in a timely manner.
