Let's make sweet music together. The songs are written, the players are ready, the piano is tuned and now we just need you!
About Me: Hi! My name is Stacy Rock. Yes! That's my real name. I was raised in Montana but now live in Brooklyn, NY. I write songs. I sing and play piano. Six years ago I put out my first album called One Way Home. The album did really well and I toured all over the country, several times, singing songs from it. I met amazing people and musicians and learned:
That really, I'm only good at one thing, and that's Making Music. Watch the video above and you'll see that my friends agree...
About this project of making music: I've written some new songs and I want to turn them into a five song EP. It's that plain and simple. When I put out my last album, Myspace was just taking off, Facebook didn't exist and Twitter was just a tweet in the sky. I'm not on a record label, but now with social media and Kickstarter, fans, family and friends have all the power of a record label. You can decide if you want to hear my music ... and I hope you do!
Do I just want you to give me money?: No! There are a couple of great things about Kickstarter.
One: Nothing is for free. There is a gift for each level of donation and I have tried to make it equal to every inch of your generosity. You can see all of them on the right over there. If you want something different, email me, I'll see what I can do!
Two: Kickstarter is ALL or NOTHING funding. If I don't make my goal, I don't get any of the money. Nada, Zilch, Zero, Negativisimo. You will never be charged. You know what I love about that? We are in this together. It becomes our project.
Why so much money?:The last album was 11 songs and cost me $14,000. YES, $14,000. Sheesh. I was also touring when gas was soaring up around $4 a gallon.. um.. it still is, right?
This time, I'm a bit older and wiser (well, definitely older) and here's my mathematical breakdown of costs for 5 songs:
- $2500 for studio time (that's about 5 days)
- $875 for mixing ($175 per song)
- $400 for mastering
- $1000 to press 1,000 CD's (the most cost effect amount to press)
- $1200 for travel and musician pay
That may look like a lot of money but when it comes to recording an album, that's on the lower end!
What if we raise more than the goal?: We'll all meet in a central location and go for pizza! No really, the extra money will be used for the following:
- musician pay
- possibly the recording of more songs
Why will it take until the summer of 2012 to make this album? Because I'm having a baby! I'm due in February. I could try to push it (not literally) and be in the studio in January, but I'd like to wait until this new and beautiful element is part of my life. Who knows, maybe I'll be inspired to write a bunch of new songs and make it a double feature? Or maybe the child will be a genius cowbell player at the age of two months? Who knows...
Where can I hear more of your music? You can go to my website and watch videos, download tunes, look at pictures... click here.
A big thank you to my friend Pat Hamm for making the very funny video at the top of this page. And many thanks to Rebecca Calamar, Liza Pross, Patrick Hambrick, Randall Leddy, Bergie, Roger and Virginia Rock, Mickie and Andrew Hamm for making fun of me in the video. I appreciate you so much. xo.
THANK YOU! Stacy
More about Kickstarter:
(From Kickstarter's own FAQs:)
Kickstarter is a new way to fund creative projects.
Project creators inspire people to open their wallets by offering smart, fun, and tangible rewards (products, benefits, and experiences).
Kickstarter projects are efforts by real people to do something they love, something fun, or at least something of note.
We believe that:
• A good idea, communicated well, can spread fast and wide.
• A large group of people can be a tremendous source of money and encouragement.
Kickstarter is powered by a unique all-or-nothing funding method where projects must be fully-funded or no money changes hands.
Have a question? If the info above doesn't help, you can ask the project creator directly.
