About this project
Next Level Blue Light Protection GlassesYour eyes are your gateway to the world and it makes sense for you to protect them. Sunglasses protect your eyes from the sun’s harmful UV/A and UV/B radiation, but in our digital lives our eyes are increasingly exposed to other sources of harmful radiation that can cause eye strain and permanent damage.
Do your eyes ache when you look at a screen for hours?
With Gauss Eyewear, we have developed a solution that gives your eyes optimal protection throughout the whole day, regardless of whether you are outside in the sun or inside looking at the screen of a digital device.
Our proprietary Blueguard coating reduces eye strain and protects your eyes from the harmful blue light radiation emitted by digital device screens that interferes with your melatonin production and can diminish your sleep quality.
UV-blocking, high index lenses self-tint to give you the best of both worlds.
Self-tinting lenses automatically adjust their brightness to your environment, while coatings and lenses ensure your eyes always stay protected.
Ultra-lightweight titanium frames make Gauss glasses among the lightest glasses ever made, and therefore the most comfortable to wear.
Gauss glasses come in 6 minimal, timeless designs and 4 different titanium color options: black, silver, brown and gun.
With Gauss Eyewear, we want to make cutting-edge lenses and eyewear technology affordable and available directly to you. By getting the latest lens technology directly from the laboratory, you never have to settle for overpriced frames with subpar lenses again.
As a backer, you get access to the Gauss Founders' Club. With your input, we hope to develop future generations of eyewear that are even more outstanding, if that's possible.
What about prescription lens?
We can not offer incentives or coupons here and are also not allowed to offer our glasses with prescriptions here. If you back us here you get what you read in the rewards section.
We will start offering prescription lenses in late August on our website. This will be before we assemble all the glasses of you, our backers.
We will also be in constant contact with people who have subscribed to our newsletter about all things that we sell outside of Kickstarter.
Our goal is to enable everyone to get high quality lens technology at fair prices and we do this in this Kickstarter campaign and will continue this with all future products we launch as well. I think that's the best way we can put this.
Unlike so-called 'video game glasses' that only shift the color spectrum with yellow tinted lenses, Blueguard reflects harmful blue light and thereby protects your eyes.
We use extremely durable 1.6 high index lenses that provide full protection for the complete spectrum of UV/A and UV/B radiation (290 - 400nm). In fact, our lenses also feature a special UV blocker that protects you from radiation up to 420nm.
Gauss glasses' self-tinting lenses change their color and opacity from 10 - 75% depending on how much sunlight shines on them. This means that you can wear them not only outdoors like regular sunglasses, but also indoors and even when driving at night.
Besides a few outdoor / sports eyewear brands, regular sunglasses come without any hard coating. As a result, they scratch easily and, if any coating is applied, daily wear and tear easily causes irreparable damage.
Gauss lenses don't just come with a hard coating, but with a 2 micron dip hard coating, superior to the typical spin coating used for regular hard-coated lenses.
Blueguard coating is applied to the front of the lenses, and on the back we have applied our second proprietary coating, called Achromaflex.
Many electronic devices emit electromagnetic interferences (EMI) that travel through the air. The properties and coatings of our lenses block these EMIs, protecting your eyes from EM radiation and easing eye fatigue and strain.
Our superhydrophobic coating ensures that water, oil and other liquids roll off the surface of the lenses. Our coatings also make the lenses antistatic, which means dust and other small particles don't stick to the lens. As a result, you get glasses that are much easier to clean and maintain.
Who is Gauss Eyewear?Gauss Eyewear is run by Peter 'Pit' Marx, a man who has dedicated his whole life to everything vision-related. He started working in the optical field in 1976, graduated from the Specialized Academy of Optics in Munich as an optometrist in 1986, and started a lens laboratory with two partners in 2004.
Why we need you?
We have everything lined up for our first production run, but we need your help to get this off the ground. With the money we raise here on Kickstarter we can buy everything essential for production in the quantities that will enable us to sell Gauss Eyewear at this amazing price.
In fact, the price will never be lower than it is here on Kickstarter right now. Your support can make a difference and help to make our plans for the first true eyewear protection for the digital age become reality.
This project started with finding a solution for Jay's eye strain and mutated into creating this pretty maxed out line of eyewear. Preparing for the Kickstarter was also a much bigger challenge than expected and we are extremely grateful for all the gifted people around us who helped us to get to this point. Thank you!
Risks and challenges
We have developed beautiful production-ready prototypes, and lined up everything we could to ensure our supply chain runs smoothly and deliveries run like clockwork. Pit has been in this business for most of his life and has been overseeing production of eyewear for over a decade so we are confident that we can deliver on time.
It goes without saying that, as Germans, not being on time would bug us on a deeply personal level.
In any case, we will be communicating everything that happens with you, our backers, who will help us to make this project become a reality. We hope this happens because this is just the beginning. We have more plans to change the eyewear landscape and for this we need your help.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
