Playing Legend of Hart's Hollow is like riding a roller coaster with friends, you're shrieking, laughing, and just a little bit scared, but you know nothing bad's gonna happen to you.
- Asymmetrical Gameplay: Play as the kids and unite against the Shade to banish it from this realm or play as the Shade and use your cunning and the dark to pick off the kids one by one.
- Co-op Gameplay: Each kid has a different ability and brings a different bonus to the group. Strategize with friends to quickly bring about the Shade's demise!
- Environment Manipulation: The Shade is the master of the hollow and has been for centuries. Change the environment to help you single out and take down the kids.
Ryan Parker and the Mysteries of the Unknown
You don't know about Ryan Parker and his TV show? Have you been living under a rock or something? Ok, so, Ryan Parker and the Mysteries of the Unknown is ghost hunting show viewed by children, parents, and grandparents alike (side note: Do not mention Ryan Parker to Wendy's grandma much swooning on grandma's part and embarrassment on Wendy's side will occur. Alternatively, do and watch the hilarity ensue). Ryan Parker is the host of the show and his life is so awesome! He gets to travel the world, and go on adventures, and just have aaaaallll the fun! Man, who wouldn't want to be him, beard and all.
Hart's Hollow is a summer camp for kids, named after the hollow near it. Now, not to alarm you or anything (and you didn't hear this from me, ok?) but supposedly the hollow just might be haunted. Creepy, twisted trees, strange noises, the whole works. No one ever really goes there and no one actually believes the hollow is haunted, but recently that ghost hunter guy just went in and hasn't been heard from in days . . .
Here at camp, we only texture stuff by hand. Hand painted stuff is the way it's always been done here.
League of Investigators for Ghostly and Haunted Terrors (or L.I.G.H.T.)
3 kids met on the playground on day at school. Or at least 2 got into a fight about which episode of Ryan Park and the Mysteries of the Unknown was the best, dragged another kid who was just minding his own business into the fight, and then somehow became friends, forming the League of Investigators for Ghostly and Haunted Terrors in order to seek out and combat any dark forces of the supernatural world (though they've never find anything interesting).
Sam knows everything. Or at least, he thinks he knows everything. Ok, well maybe not everything, but a lot of things. He can tell you the up to the 50th number of pi, the exact date Star Wars: A New Hope wrapped filming, and which episode of Ryan Parker and the Mysteries of the Unknown is the best (it's 42, don't believe Wendy).
Wendy is a tough as nails punk who's not gonna let something like a stupid, old shade scare her. Ryan Parker's gone missing? Heck yeah she's up for joining a rescue team. Maybe he'll be so grateful that he'll let her become his sidekick, traveling the world and having adventures. Wouldn't that be awesome! Besides she's been going to this summer camp over and over again for years and she's never seen anything cool and it's always the same old boring activities. So no way are all those legends true . . . right?
Teddy never really wanted to go on an adventure. All he wants to do is stay at home and watch Ryan Parker's show on TV. Why go on a real adventure when you can be safe at home and still have the same excitement, you know? But when push comes to shove, you best believe that Teddy's gonna fight for his friends. Cause otherwise, who else will eat lunch with him? :( He doesn't want to go back to the way things were before Sam and Wendy.
Everybody has a slightly different version as to who it was and why it haunts the hollow. Some say it was a jilted sailor who drowned himself in the stagnant pools of the swamp. Others say it was a beautiful Southern belle, poisoned by a jealous rival and left for dead in the hollow. Still others will say that it's the twisted soul of a condemned witch's cat, cursed to prowl the area until it avenges it's master's death.
No one's really sure who or what the shade used to be or why it's there. Doesn't matter anyway, it's just some silly old tale used to scare children into behaving.
Polybot's members number about 40 strong and span across the global with the majority of us here in Savannah, Georgia where the swamps are creepy, the legends are numerous, and barbeque is its own food group (a great place to take inspiration for our game).
The game originated from the 2013 Global Game Jam that had the theme of heartbeat. Since then, the team and the game has grown larger than our non-existent incomes can support. We'd love to share our game and its sense of adventure with the world. But, more importantly, we just wanna stay together. If we get funded, it means that this can be our full time job instead of being broken up to work at other companies and focus on other projects.
Like the kids in our game, we're a diverse bunch who have different skill sets and different personalities and somewhere along the way we became a family. We'd love for you to join our family and come on a grand adventure with us. :)
- Labor Costs: We love our team and would like for them to eat and have a roof over their heads during production. :)
- Licensing Fees: It's either that or making our own engine and tools. In which case, bump that estimated release date to 2020.
- Server Fees: Since our game is multiplayer, it'd be hard to play with overseas and cross-country friends without it.
- Manufacturing and Shipping Fees: So ya'll can have your sweet swag.
- Kickstarter and Amazon Fees: To keep these awesome sites running.
