A prototype is a preliminary model of something. Projects that offer physical products need to show backers documentation of a working prototype. This gallery features photos, videos, and other visual documentation that will give backers a sense of what’s been accomplished so far and what’s left to do. Though the development process can vary for each project, these are the stages we typically see:
Proof of Concept
Explorations that test ideas and functionality.
Demonstrates the functionality of the final product, but looks different.
Looks like the final product, but is not functional.
Appearance and function match the final product, but is made with different manufacturing methods.
Appearance, function, and manufacturing methods match the final product.
At KineFusion, we have spent our lives in and around the water. We’re pool rats at heart, and we believe that everyone deserves to feel the rush of diving cleanly into the water. We strive to help you reach your goals, even if that is just enjoying a great swim.
Why Swim Paddles?
Success is not the product of mindless yardage in the pool, but rather mindfulness. Have you ever seen a frog dive into the water? There's a natural elegance there. KineFusion crafted the mimic paddle to facilitate your own natural potential. These patent pending swim paddles can be personalized to your palm. And they're developed from the professional experience of world class coaches.
There's a science to sport. Tools that facilitate natural human ability will help you use it to your advantage.
How Does it all Fit Together?
We re-imagined the design of swim paddles to enhance performance. We also innovated technology that complements coaching analysis without getting in its way. This promotes a feel for the water in many ways:
Designed for performance, Mimic swim paddles work with or against your stroke technique. This provides actionable kinesthetic feedback for purposeful practice.
Looking for more? Data loops can be presented and shared with companion apps for both athletes and coaches. These apps can use Augmented Reality, Machine Vision, and Apple Watch metrics (like speed, DPC, HR, etc) to measure progress.
Athlete + App
nodes and grooves in the paddle provide a better feel for the water
multipurpose hexagonal channels for a better grip and augmented reality (AR) connection
workouts and videos can be saved to app, or delivered in AR
Coach + Athlete + App
smartphone camera can capture performance data. Point. Shoot. Upload.
data can be shared with an Athletic Roster
coaches can enhance an athlete’s experience
Athlete + Watch + App
apple watch augments the athlete’s experience
watch can capture Distance per Cycle (DPC) | Heart Rate | Speed
watch can connect to smartphone camera to sync data with video
The swim paddles connect athletes with the water. The technology provides purposeful guidance via mobile apps and/or augmented reality.
Mimic Swim Paddle
Inspired by nature, the Mimic paddle creates an unrivaled feel for the water. Its surface is innovated with special silicone nodes and grooves designed to pool water under the palm as the hand slides into the water. This promotes the flow of water during the most dynamic aspects of the stroke.
A hexagonal channel system on the underside serves two purposes. One, it provides a significant grip improvement. Two, it connects the KineFusion app to your paddle with augmented reality.
Athlete iOS App
The companion app details how to get the most out of your new swim paddles. Choose augmented reality to link your paddles to your iPhone camera for workouts and videos or to set up notifications in the app.
Athletes can use the app to connect with their coaches via mobile device or optional Apple Watch. They will be able to see their progress in their performance library.
Coach iOS App (upgrade for coaches only)
In addition to the Athlete App features, coaches can film their athletes for automated stroke analysis. Performances can be saved to their library or shared with an athlete(s). Simple as film, save, share.
Apple Watch (optional connect with Athlete App)
When connected with your Apple Watch, the Athlete App allows you to film yourself through a remote setup. You can then overlay the collected performance metrics. Performances can also be synced and analyzed without video.
Independent of the Athlete App, your Apple Watch app will come preprogrammed with sets designed to improve your feel for the water. It will also include a 'Feel' swim feature for those times you just want to go for a swim.
Our first stretch goal is to create two paddle sizes. The current design is slightly smaller than a #3 StrokeMaker Paddle. We also intend to provide another option approximately 8% smaller and in orange.
The swimming community is incredibly supportive. And in these early stages, we are excited to validate our ideas and concepts with you.
Practically, we want to make sure we meet demand and develop core features with you. This will help us make KineFusion more accessible as we engage with more swimmers and coaches in the future.

Risks and challenges
As with any business, there can be delays, and we want to be as transparent as possible. With that in mind...
Our pre-manufacturing and fulfillment setup is nearly complete for the swim paddles. It will be vital to delivery that we make certain our first hardware order is of an appropriate size to deliver on time. Our reward limits reflect that.
Kickstarter funds are released upon completion and we will place the swim paddle order immediately upon receipt. We are as excited as you to bring KineFusion products and services to more swimmers.
Our R&D software stages (like hardware) are complete and the app roadmaps are clear and moving forward. We are implementing algorithms for occlusion with multiple athletes in a video, and will be training those accordingly before fulfillment. Any hurdles will most likely be bug releases that we will continue to evaluate and address as they inevitably arise.
Like any good swimmer, we have set clear, purposeful deadline/goals. And like any coach we know that unexpected hurdles will arise. Rest assured, if that occurs, we are prepared to handle the situation and will make sure to keep all backers updated!
