Who Is Scott Fagan?
Singer and songwriter Scott Fagan was born in New York City in 1945 and raised on St. Thomas in the Virgin Islands. In 1964, he was discovered by legendary songwriter Doc Pomus, and his first LP, South Atlantic Blues, was released in 1967.
In 1969, the artist Jasper Johns immortalized the record with three different works.
In 1971, Fagan wrote Soon, which is considered to be the first rock opera produced on Broadway. Here, he discusses that era in his life.
In 2013, soon after finding out that Stephin Merritt was his son, the two singers met for the first time at a screening of AKA Doc Pomus.
Who Is Stephin Merritt?
Stephin Merritt is a singer and songwriter best known for his work with the Magnetic Fields. He also leads the Future Bible Heroes, the Gothic Archies, and the 6ths.
The Magnetic Fields' three-CD album of 1999, 69 Love Songs, received a rare A+ review from Robert Christgau. William Berlind has written, in The New York Times, "Merritt brought to the public ear the kind of small-scale, crystalline, clever songs that for the most part have not been written since the heyday of musical theater."
Risks and challenges
The success of this project depends on Scott Fagan being able to record these songs. If his health or other factors interfere, it may take longer than projected. The same goes for all of the premiums, especially the living room concerts.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
