About this project
Hi, I’m Genny Clarke Neice, and I run Studio Wheelwright here in the heart of Virginia.
I am a home-based craftsperson and artist in my free time. After years of working in the retail industry, I want to do what I love and make a living doing it. I have decided to start with hand-sewn and embroidered baby booties and children’s slippers. There is a huge and always growing market for these, and I love to make them.
The shoes are small so I can make many of them with a minimum of supplies. I make them out of various materials, including felt, cloth, and leather.
I have basic designs that I develop into many styles, and I personalize them with monograms, names, symbols or custom patterns. These shoes would be the beginning of a home-based business that will grow to include original arts and crafts.
I plan to sell the shoes for between $12 and $40 a pair, depending upon materials used and time spent making them. This would be enough to cover expenses and still make a profit.
My future as a self-sufficient artist depends on the success of this project, so please give what you can and thanks so much for checking this out.
There will be some with felt or fabric soles, and others will have non-slip soles.
