A young backpacker, Eric, slowly makes his way across the desert back roads of eastern California, headed for Los Angeles. He sees an open gate leading to a vacation home on the edge of a man made lake. Feeling lucky to have come across anyone this far from civilization, he approaches the house looking for water and a warm bed for the night. The lady of the house, Jess, gives him a hesitant welcome, but the man of the house, David, invites him to stay.
The couple and the young man share a meal and a discussion. An odd tension mounts as we discover who they truly are.

The main challenge we'll be facing is getting pitch perfect performances and uniquely precise Fincher-esque cinematography to create a particular atmosphere in just two days of filming. Some major influences of ours for the look of this film are: Seven (Fincher), Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (Fincher), There Will Be Blood (Paul Thomas Anderson), Days of Heaven (Malick), No Country for Old Men (Coen Bros). Here are some stills to give you an idea of what we are trying to do:
We have the team to get it done, we have the cast to make it work, but in order to truly realize this dream, we gotta get some help from you lovely people. The money will go towards lighting, camera rental, crew fees and actor fees.
We are also hoping that this project will serve as a starting point for a feature film of the same name and story line. Mark O'brien and I have started writing it, and this short will be the perfect pitch for studio backing.
We want this film to have a great festival tour. The money raised here will also go towards the festival fees.
We have a team of hard working crew, and our cast is experienced and highly talented. We are so close to realizing our goal and making this dream a reality.
Thank you for your consideration and any help you are willing to give.
Risks and challenges
I mentioned in the above section the potential challenges we will face. A short amount of time to shoot, a need to get the right look and emulate the beautiful and haunting cinematography that we have seen in Fincher-esque films.
Other than that, the risks with this project are few. We have the talent and experience, we honestly just need the money to make it happen :)
A friends isolated desert home is a prime location to film, with few things that can go wrong.
Our goal is to get it into Film Festivals all over the place. This includes TIFF and Sundance, which our stars have been to many times before.
Of course we understand that difficulties can arise no matter how small or simple a shoot seems to be, but any problems that do surface will be handled with no negative effect on the project, we are quite confident of that.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
