The Local: Great food... Naturally
This is not your Mother's breakfast. We have a vision to reinvent breakfast (lunch too) and we need your help to do it!
Who are we? Sheryl Strong, Rob Mackey and Anne-Marie Szabo and all of us have a passion for food. We have come together to bring you breakfast and lunch (and maybe a dinner here or there) with food that inspires, satisfies and leaves you yearning for your next visit. Our menu will feature unique and creative food served in a fun and inviting atmosphere. Where ever possible, we will source food locally. The Local has teamed up with Kelly Beef, Whipstone Farms, Ridgeview Farms and other local businesses to bring you fresh meats, produce, jams, and much, much more. At The Local, you can be assured that everything will be made from scratch, with the freshest and finest ingredients.

Sheryl grew up in the kitchen along side her mother and Aunt, where she learned to cook and eat! Armed with a vision and her recipes, Sheryl created the Firehouse Kitchen in Prescott. Teaming up with Rob as Executive Chef, this creative team went on to win several awards and accolades, including being named one of the 25 Best restaurants in the state (Arizona Highways, April 2008). After selling the restaurant, she went on to a career in sales. Realizing that she was always dreaming and thinking of opening another restaurant, the opportunity to team up once again with Rob and include her friend, Anne-Marie, presented itself. She is excited to bring to a fresh dining experience to the great city of Prescott.
Rob grew up in Indiana spending much of his time in the kitchen with his grandmother. Preparing meals along side of her became one of his childhood passions and favorite memories. Rob took that passion and went on to graduate from the Scottsdale Culinary Institute in 2002. Since graduating he has been a culinary genius to many restaurant owners including Sheryl, when he crossed her path and came on board at the Firehouse kitchen. Their chemistry together, Rob's culinary excellence, and his uncanny ability to think out of the recipe box, won him great recognition there amongst critics and customers alike. Nothing pleases Rob more than to give an extraordinary dining experience chock full of surprises!
About Anne-Marie (the silent one...haha!):
Anne-Marie was inspired by her mother's artful cooking. Her mother instilled upon her that creating food is a family affair. This has turned into a passion to create lovely dishes to share and delight friends and family. In 2004 Anne-Marie was creative director and publisher of Maitre'D, a dining guide for Prescott/Northern Arizona. It was her vision to highlight and provide community members and tourists with information and feature articles about our locally owned restaurants and chefs. She also used the magazine to encourage food exploration. While having a conversation about eating breakfast in a restaurant with Sheryl, a concept was born. Anne-Marie just knew that she had to be involved. At The Local, Anne-Marie will bring her creativity to help reinvent how we think about breakfast food. And you might just see her pop in to cook up something special just for you or offer a cooking class!
Why do we need the Money?
We have secured our location in downtown Prescott, but much work is needed to bring to life our vision. We need your help to construct and furnish the dining room and the kitchen with all of the bells and whistles it takes for us to relentlessly push food boundaries and the dining experience. We plan on being a part of the community for many, many years to come and want to open our doors with all the tools that we need to do that properly. We aren’t opening The Local to just be another breakfast and lunch place and repeat history, but rather to create history, and we want you to be the catalyst of our creative freedom.
We decided to come to you, the good people of Prescott and beyond, for your help, not the help of private investor(s). We are The Local and we want this restaurant to truly be part of the community. When you make a contribution, your name will forever be etched on our walls for all to see, but even more exciting, in Prescott’s history (at least the history of The Local)!
What you need to know about Kickstarter:
When deciding how much money is needed for a project, one must consider that Kickstarter takes 5% (hey, they gotta make money too) and another 4-5% goes to credit card fees. So, 9-10% goes to Kickstarter before we receive the balance. We also have to consider the rewards, for example, buying water bottles for all of you amazing backers and the shipping cost of those rewards to those of you from out of town. Your credit card won't be charged until we are fully funded and we DO NOT receive any money unless we are fully funded. If we miss our goal by even $100, we receive nothing. However, if we go over our goal, then be assured that we will wisely use that money for the benefit of the restaurant and our community.

Risks and challenges
Freedom is a gift. We would prefer to have accountability owed to those who inspire, support and share our vision. We want to have the creative freedom to bring our vision to light in the kitchen, in the dining room and to the table. We feel taking on an investor would hinder that creative process. By your contribution there will be no compromise to our integrity and the money generated throughout the years, rather than go to paying back an investor, will go towards the ever changing menu items, the chefs, and the employees that continually make your dining experience exceptional!
