Technology has finally caught up with the science fiction that was first imagined by Gene Roddenberry in 'Star Trek - The Next Generation'. Finally, there is a real CommBadge®, it's a miniature speakerphone with really big sound!
The Best Alternative to a Bluetooth Headset

CommBadge supercharges Siri and Google Now. It will totally change the way you interact with your smartphone, and that's a good thing!

How Does it Work?
CommBadge is a patent pending wearable Bluetooth Low Energy speakerphone for iPhone and Android, measuring just 1.54" (39.1mm) in diameter. That's tinier than a Silver Eagle dollar coin. It's simple to use, yet amazingly convenient! All of CommBadge's functions are controlled by just tapping it, we call it the "touch interface." It uses the latest DSP audio SoC (system on a chip) to minimize background and wind noise. By combining proprietary directional and personalized speaker technology, CommBadge brings you crystal clear handsfree communication and music. You'll be able to customize CommBadge with the free companion apps.
CommBadge was designed to outlast your smartphone's battery. Depending on the speakerphone use, it will run for 2-5 days in standby mode.
But CommBadge is Much More...
Two Models to Choose, CommBadge and CommBadge+
CommBadge is great for personal use, with a sleek minimalist design and no ID badge holder.
CommBadge+ is an ID badge holder and wearable Bluetooth speakerphone with voice command, in one tiny package. This CommBadge includes an ID badge holder, and is great for business and personal use.
Four Colors to Choose on Standard Pledges
Just prior to shipment you will have the option to pick from black, red, silver, or white.
CommBadge attaches to your clothing with a locking clasp. You can easily replace this clasp with a super strong rare-earth magnet to provide a clean look (yes, Starfleet uniform-style). MagPack holds your CommBadge flush against your clothing, even on heavy-weight fabrics. Amazing strength, you can even jog with it!
$25,000 Stretch Goal Added
CommBadge has partnered with SmartTek Systems, enabling a virtual personal security guard for your smartphone. In a panic situation, by pressing and holding CommBadge's touch interface for 5 seconds an emergency number is silently dialed to your alarm company's central station. The central station attendant will then be able to "listen-in" undetected and dispatch the appropriate emergency personnel; police, fire or medical. This service will be offered through dozens of security industry providers with over 600,000 current customers.
This new service will expand CommBadge's usefulness to even greater heights. Think of it as a mobile panic button, just like the one you probably have in your home already. It will give the CommBadge user a personal security guard on the go! Provide a CommBadge to all your family members for complete piece of mind. Also, the iOS and Android apps will have the ability to monitor your children through geofencing. Don't worry, privacy is very important to us, this feature will require an opt-in. More details to follow when we get closer to launch.
Will This Cost Me Additional Fees?
Each security provider will decide the costs. Some will give it away for free (to current subscribers) while others will charge a monthly fee. Please do not request pricing details from CommBadge until we officially announce our partners.
The SmartTek service will of course be optional. If you don't want this fee-based service, you will be able to assign the emergency number to "911" or any other phone number of your choosing from within the iOS and Android apps for free. Awesome!

Risks and challenges
CommBadge is currently in the pre-production phase. We have built and are currently testing our first run of dozens of prototypes. The prototypes are fully functional. Most of the firmware issues have already been resolved.
We have already selected vendors for both the PCB and the plastic parts. Because of the fantastic progress we've made with the plastic and PCB prototypes we feel confident that we can easily meet the timeline.
We fully understand that product development projects come with their own set of challenges. If some unforeseen problems arise, we will be sure to handle them as quickly and smoothly as possible. We have already factored in some lag-time for our delivery and we are confident that we can get everything shipped out by our estimated delivery dates.
Outside of our manufacturing process, we have our logistics system firmly in place. Charles has over ten years of professional Inventory Management and Logistics experience under his belt. He has worked hand in hand with some of the world's largest companies including Toyota, Lexus, and Penske.
Overall, the order fulfillment portion is something that we are very confident in being able to execute. It's actually something we pride ourselves on, as process efficiency is something we each genuinely enjoy. We understand that it’s a lot of work, but we are fully equipped with both the physical space and the team needed to ship many rewards. We have multiple resources in place to ensure order fulfillment whether we end up rewarding 500, 5,000, or 10,000 units of CommBadge.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
CommBadge is a next generation Bluetooth speakerphone that is wearable. CommBadge is not a traditional Bluetooth headset! CommBadge attaches to your clothing quickly and securely. Additionally, CommBadge+ combines the ID badge holder you may currently be required to wear by your employer with a handsfree speakerphone.
CommBadge's speakerphone functionality can work with most Bluetooth capable smartphones including iPhone, Android, Blackberry, and Windows Phone. However, in order to get the most out of CommBadge and use it's intelligent voice assistant control you must use iOS 4.0 or newer.
For Android, first find out if it has a Bluetooth Hands-Free Profile (HFP). You can locate this on your device manufacturer’s technical specs web page. Then check if it has Bluetooth connectivity. To do this, borrow a friend’s Bluetooth headset and pair it with your phone. If you can place a call by saying a name in your Contacts list, or answer a call, then it’s a 90% probability you can do at least those functions by tapping once on your CommBadge.
Any iPhone from the 4s and up will have Siri and it's awesome intelligence. The iPhone 3GS and 4 have limited voice command, but they will still work with CommBadge to make phone calls, etc.
Voice Command functions on Android phones are dependent upon your device. If your phone came with an integrated Voice Command app and it works with a Bluetooth headset, it will work with CommBadge.
We currently only support iOS and Android. You can download the iOS app for free from the App Store or the Android app from Google Play directly on your phone (both are coming soon). A Windows Phone app is in the works for later this year.
Just like any late model Bluetooth headset. It takes less than a minute. Once CommBadge is powered on it will automatically search for the closest phone in "Discoverable" mode. You only have to do this once.
Use the included micro-USB cable to connect to standard USB or a power supply. CommBadge runs on a built-in rechargeable Lithium-Polymer battery.
CommBadge was designed to be worn on the upper breast-area of a shirt, blouse, or jacket. CommBadge comes with an alligator type clasp. You may also add the MagPack reward and attach CommBadge magnetically for added convenience. Additionally, you can wear CommBadge on a lanyard.
Great! if your car is not equipped with a bluetooth speakerphone just clip CommBadge to you visor.
One simple short-press and release will activate Siri just like holding down the 'Home" button on your iPhone.
Yes, CommBadge makes an awesome wireless (Bluetooth) speaker. It's tiny, but has impressive sound quality and loudness. It has approximately 90+dB of sound pressure.
Yes, whether you are using the clasp or the MagPack magnet, CommBadge holds extremely securely to your clothing, even heavy-weight fabrics.
CommBadge will alert you with a verbal warning you when you get a predetermined distance from your smartphone. These settings can be user adjusted in the FREE to download iPhone and Android app.
Yes, the CommBadge app works with iPhone and Android Notifications and will alert you when you get beyond the predetermined distance away from the CommBadge.
Great, just select the CommBadge reward.
The same way! It will clip to your shirt pocket, collar, or lanyard just like your old ID badge holder.
Bluetooth Smart also known as 4.X or "Low Energy", enables devices to be continuously connected but with extremely low battery drain. CommBadge will last more than a full day on a single charge with average use. Stand-by time (when powered on) is two to three days.
Double-press CommBadge. To send the call back to CommBadge from your smartphone, double-press again.
Your CommBadge must stay within 30-50 feet of your phone (This range will likely double with the Kickstarter version 2.0 of CommBadge), although the distance may vary depending on your location, obstacles, etc. You will likely improve your range if there are no solid objects between your CommBadge and phone. If you have your Wireless Tether turned on, CommBadge will notify you with a voice prompt warning when you have gone out of range.
CommBadge has the latest noise canceling technology. Background noises are virtually eliminated automatically.
Diameter - 1.54 inches (39.1 mm)
Thickness - 0.66 inches (16.8 mm)
Yes, while paired with your iPhone or Android, CommBadge becomes the primary microphone and speaker for most apps. This can be turned on/off in your phone's settings.
