My goal is to teach young children how to value others for their differences while showing them that we’re not really all that different. I would like to turn this book into a series of Kelly stories that help illustrate the various struggles that Down syndrome kids go through, and how the reader should respond, help and include them. My book includes a Q&A section that gives practical examples and answers to questions that young kids might have about Down syndrome. I plan to have book readings at elementary schools and community centers with Q&A time at the end followed by pictures with a Kelso mascot from the stories. I want to design an interactive website where kids can play games, do fun crafts, and join in a anti-bullying campaign, and even write in with questions for the storybook characters and get answers!
Know that your support goes far beyond a simple purchase of products. It will allow me the ability to reach the children in our community, and help open their hearts and minds to those who are often left out, misunderstood or excluded. I will personally be performing book readings in local schools, hospitals, churches, and community centers. We are excited to be working with Companies such as Reeve’s Tees, an organization that hires Down syndrome employees and Whataburger.
Also included with every book purchase is the original Kelly song, "I'll Be There For You".
Risks and challenges
Half the challenges have already been overcome. The book and illustrations are fully completed, and I already have an avenue for printing the books. The only potential delay foreseen is the shipment of the plush Kelso koalas. However, Gann Memorial Custom Plush is working diligently to meet our agreed deadline. We hope to get all products out to you as soon as possible.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
