Update Video - Printed Results
We are back after a very successful original campaign to bring our Starship interior designs to a 3D printer and tabletop near you, we are back with our second campaign, and we have doubled down and increased the quality of the prints dramatically.
Enhance Your Gaming Experience
A great investment for war games, board games, or tabletop roleplaying games, our 3D printable tiles can enhance your game by adding a 3rd dimension.
These modular OpenLOCK system tiles to create space ship deck plans, off world colonies, or cyberpunk mega structures.
Many war games use 28 mm scale, including the popular Warhammer 40K and its derivatives. For larger scales, the tiles can simply be up-scaled in your 3D printing program and will give even better print results.
Today, there are many great new miniatures-based tabletop experiences, such as Nemisis, Core Space, Chronicle X, or the currently running Zombicide: Invader. You can supplement or replace the cardboard playing tiles with OpenLOCK sci-fi tiles.
TABLETOP ROLEPLAYING GAMES
If you are like me, and are an avid tabletop roleplayer, you can get the most out of these tiles, using them to enhance tactical maps for games like Starfinder, Star Wars or Traveller.
- These are STL files only not physical models –you will need to print them yourselves, either with your own 3D printer or via a 3D printing service such as through our licensees or Shapeways.
- Most of the images shown are renders, not painted models in photographs. Your results may vary by printer. During the campaign we will show photos of actual print results.
- Pricing is in SEK (Swedish kronor), and around 80:- is equivalent to $10 USD.
- You may print as many copies as you want for personal use. If you wish to sell these models for a profit, you need a license.
- STL files are not for distribution or resale. They are for personal use only and may not be modified without permission.
The terrain is designed for 28 mm play (1"/25.4 mm grids), but can easily be scaled up to 32 mm or larger, or downscaled in your 3d printing software.
Upscaled prints will produce even better results than shown here, providing smoother surfaces and more enhanced details.
Downscaled prints may lose some quality of detail, unless you are printing at a higher resolution, for example, at 50-100 microns. 15mm is 60% the size of 25/28mm squares. I would not print smaller than this, because the OpenLOCK connectors will likely be too fragile.
Where Does Your Money Go?
As with our last Kickstarter, we have reinvested the funds into yet more designs for you to print. The stuff shown in this Kickstarter has been funded wholly by the last one, and the proceeds from this one will go into the next one as well as into the purchase of additional 3D printing equipment and software.
Each of the sets we offer below are either a part of the Flight Engineer or Engineer pledges, but are included in all pledges of 500 SEK or greater.
Most pledges do not include campaign add-ons. These are additional sets, expansions or set pieces that are released throughout the campaign.
If you want an add-on, increase your pledge by the indicated amount - you can also add add-ons during the post campaign.
Note, some of the larger pledges do include add-ons, so be sure to check out if yours does already!
We beat our initial goal in an incredible 4 minutes! Since then we have had a steady stream of stretch goal unlocks, and it doesn't seem like it is going to let up anytime soon! The following have been added to everyone's pledges:
We have made a variety of pledges for new and returning backers as well as commercial printers. Pledge the total amount you wish to contribute.
At the end of the campaign, a pledge manager on BackerKit will be made available where you can adjust your final pledge.
Detailed Enough to Be Interesting, Generic Enough to Be Reusable
Although cost effective in the long run, printing terrain does take a considerable amount of time, and to make up for this investment, we have tried to focus on re-usability. We decided to keep the pieces generic enough to be reusable time and time again in different scenes, but interesting enough that they should not feel too boring.
We have tried to intelligently design the pieces to require few supports, although some shapes, such as doorways, may demand them, most items should print without them. We print between 200 and 100 microns (150 microns is a good compromise) on FDM machines (Flashforge Creator Pro and Flashforge Finder). Use 4-5 top solid layers and 3-4 side layers, as well as single extrusion walls and fills (if your software allows it), and a raft if you do not have a bed warmer. Printing slower will give better results.
Many pledge levels provide access to any commissioned files! These are any files that backers might commission during the campaign. If there are no commissions ordered, we will make community-designed commissioned files to the equivalent of 10 hours.
Some rewards offer commissions, given in hours of labour. This is the amount of time that we will use to sketch out and model a design for tiles, objects or creatures. Commissioned work will require a small consultation for a part of your time via mail correspondence or other media. Reference images are a bonus.
The list below can tell you approximately what a commissioned time period will allow for.
- 2-hours - A 2x2 tile, or wall piece, or two 1x1 tiles of simple design
- 10-hours - A combination of the above, a complex robot design or an organic creature.
2nd Dynasty retains all the rights for any commissioned works, which cannot infringe on other peoples copyrights. The commissioned works will be included in the Commander and higher reward levels.
Commissioned works are not for resale, although you may contact me for separate commissions with different agreement terms.
All tiles are compatible with the amazing OpenLOCK system created by Printable Scenery, so you can mix and match and supplement our tiles with products from their line and the dozens of other suppliers of OpenLOCK-compatible scenery.
Special Thanks To
Ola Larsson for his background designs, Hannes for his support and feedback, Micke for his equipment and Charlie of Fabel for his amazing retrowave pitch video music.
Risks and challenges
There are very few risks and challenges for this project, since most of the sets are already complete and ready for printing. Of course, any stretch goals or commissions will take additional time to complete and could increase the delivery time.
We may release content as they are ready, as we did last campaign.
Excessive commissioned files or reaching stretch goals may delay production by a few weeks more, depending on the volume.
There is a small chance that there may be issues with STLs for you and your printer. I will do what I can to help fix any issues with the files themselves, although do not offer tech support for 3D printing.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
