WHAT IS ELECTRONIC OPUS?
Electronic Opus is a unique and immersive Electronic Symphonic album project featuring the most popular songs from the award winning, world renowned, multiple platinum artist, film composer and technologist BT. BT is considered one of the people who transformed modern music forever and is widely acknowledged as the godfather of trance.
Start with the power and excitement of electronic dance music (EDM), blend in the emotional and classical tones of a symphony orchestra, and the result is Electronic Opus, a first-of-its-kind, high-energy album and live concert experience arriving in March 2015.
Produced by BT and the award-winning composer and Video Games Live creator Tommy Tallarico, Electronic Opus features BT’s signature EDM hits re-imagined, re-arranged and remixed with a full orchestra.
“This collaboration is an acoustical merging of tradition and technology, not simply symphonic versions of popular EDM songs,” says Tommy Tallarico, creative director and executive producer, Electronic Opus. “This ‘electronic symphonic’ collaboration reinvents what a 21st century symphonic experience can be: incredible high-energy, melodic electronic music from one of the top artists in the field blended with the artistic and cultural merits of a full symphony.”
“Whenever we would bring up this idea with record companies and executives, they would never take us seriously,” explains BT. “They don’t believe that people who listen to electronic music would fully appreciate the symphony experience and vice versa. With Electronic Opus we're looking to prove music lovers of all types will embrace this new form of orchestra experience. To make this dream a reality we need the help of our entire community.”
The following tracks are merely unfinished, unrecorded mock-ups using computer based symphonic instruments. And although they represent the basic structure of each song (which we will be used for timing to help record each piece), the final tracks and mixes will sound more incredible, warm and "real".
Electronic Opus will showcase BT’s ultimate talents as a classically trained musician and composer with a unique focus on merging technology and music production. The album would feature new hybrid symphonic electronic arrangements of BT’s greatest and most popular hits over the past 25 years.
Here are a list of some of the songs we would like to put in the live show and include at least 12 of them on the album (14 if we reach our stretch goals).
Never Gonna Come Back Down
The Force of Gravity
Somnambulist (Simply Being Loved)
A Million Stars
Good Morning Kaia
Every Other Way
Love Comes Again
These Silent Hearts
Ferris Wheel (from the Motion Picture Monster)
The Fast and the Furious (Motion Picture montage)
We are also hoping to do a brand new release and remix from the movie Blade Runner!
The album will take approximately 2 1/2 full studio days to record. An orchestral recording of this nature is based on 3 hour sessions. We will need a total of FIVE 3 hour sessions (15 hours total). This cost could range anywhere from $50,000 - $75,000 depending on where the recording is done. Our aim is to keep the budget low and the quality HIGH! A top-of-the-line recording studio (including ALL costs) will be approximately $5,000 per day ($15,000 total). Mixing with a top Hollywood film (& game) audio engineer (one week including studio and assistants) = approximately $25,000. Mastering will take place at the most famous Mastering Studio in Hollywood (Bernie Grundman's) by one of the most highly regarded mastering engineers in the business... Patricia Sullivan. Patricia has personally worked with and mastered films by John Williams (including Star Wars & Indiana Jones films), James Newton Howard, James Horner, Danny Elfman, Hans Zimmer, John Powell and Mark Isham. Mastering budget for this type of project (both 24bit 96KHz & 16bit 48KHz versions) could go upwards to $7,500. Other parts of the budget will include things like, CD manufacturing based on 7,500 initial units (approximately $7,500), Kickstarter & Amazon fees (10% = $15,000), hiring of a PR firm for 6 weeks ($15,000), Shipping & Handling of goods, added physical products at certain tier levels, etc.

Risks and challenges
Executive Producer Tommy Tallarico has successfully released 5 symphonic based albums/soundtracks and has successfully funded (and delivered ON TIME!) a Kickstarter project. It was the 3rd highest grossing Kickstarter album in history and debuted at #1 on the Billboard Charts!
The only budget risks would be in the editing and mixing process as both BT & Tommy are audio perfectionists and the time needed to deliver a perfect product could take longer than expected. When creating, editing and mixing in a studio for something of this nature it is impossible to put an exact number on a budget line... however the time needed would only be the addition of a few days here and there. The show is happening on March 29, 2015 and the goal is to release the album on the same night!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
