Wishing to spread the sheer joy of bike riding, SASSYCYCLIST creates colorful, sophisticated, and feminine cycling jerseys. Our American-made garments are designed to enhance the comfort, safety and style of cycling for women.
With soft wicking performance fabric, a comfortable feminine cut, lush floral and geometric prints, and reflective features, this high-quality cycling jersey will become your favorite. Hands down!
SASSYCYCLIST is a new company that arose from the camaraderie and experiences my riding buddies and I have had over several years. We love getting outside on our bikes, pedaling along, enjoying the scenery, feeling fit, and spending time in good company. There is so much to love about biking, but it just so happens that the apparel isn’t usually one of these things. We decided to change that! And we need your help.
Fashionable, comfortable, and sophisticated bicycle clothing for women isn’t readily available. Typical cycling apparel tends to look masculine, mimicking competitive team wear with primary colors, racing stripes, and a lot of branding. Or they’re heavy on cheesy prints, logos, cartoon characters, raging flames, and skulls.
Also, the fit of biking jerseys tends to be a problem for many women. Cycling apparel isn’t known for its generosity in sizing, often forcing women to size up considerably which nobody appreciates. Most jerseys are made with 100% polyester fabric which is often restrictive, tight and uncomfortable.
The Solution: The SASSYCYCLIST Jersey
While maintaining the important features of quality athletic wear, SASSYCYLIST jerseys have a completely different look with floral, illustrative, and geometric motifs. Vibrant colors, lush florals, fun prints and eye-catching patterns are part of the SASSY brand.
And besides looking great, these jerseys feel fabulous! Made from a polyester spandex blend with a soft brushed interior, they feel great against the skin and stretch comfortably for a full range of movement.
The jerseys have a classic, semi-fitted design to fit and flatter a wide variety of female shapes. Aiming to take the guess work out of size selection, our garment measurements are "true to size" and correlate with regular clothing sizes (Size Chart below). Several other features keep the rider covered and comfortable on and off the bike: longer overall length, an elliptical hem, a longer sleeve length (on long sleeve version), and non-elastic trim that discourages jersey ride-up.
Many other important features have been incorporated in the design so that your SASSYCYCLIST jersey will fit and feel better.
SASSYCYCLIST sells high-quality products that reflect the attention to detail invested in their design and production. Our cycling jerseys and socks are made in the USA with American labor and quality materials. Yes, they are more expensive than apparel made beyond our borders, but utilization of local resources for the design, marketing, and production is important to us. Manufacturing in this country should be tapped as a matter of pride and concern for the local and national economy.
Bicycle riding is a true joy. It promotes a sense of freedom and self-discovery, contributes to healthier people and communities, and allows us to tread more lightly on our planet. SASSYCYCLIST hopes to encourage more women to initiate or continue cycling for fun, fitness, transportation, social bonding and as a way to discover and appreciate our surroundings.
Our company is based in Baltimore, Maryland, a place full of biking fun, friendship, and fantastic routes to ride. Our company hopes to be recognized not only for its snazzy collection of biking apparel but also for its advocacy of cycling in Baltimore and beyond.
The crew at SASSYCYCLIST has been working diligently over the past year on product research and development. After the creation of patterns and samples, fittings, revisions, more samples, and product testing, we’re now ready to produce our first batch of jerseys for customers. We can assure you that all aspects of fabrication will remain the same-- from the tested fabrics and the patterns to the sewing; from the printers to the manufacturer -- so we expect to deliver the same quality product.
July 2015: Kickstarter campaign begins.
August 2015: Fabric printed in NC and sent to cut and sew factory in NY.
September 2015: Kickstarter campaign concludes. Backers complete survey to indicate size and design choice(s). Cut and sew begins. Once complete, garments will undergo a quality control check, and then be packaged and shipped to Baltimore.
October 2015: Jerseys and other rewards will be sent to Kickstarter backers!
Risks and challenges
A lot of work, planning, and preparation was devoted to this project long before the Kickstarter campaign. We’re very pleased with the designs, fabrics, and jersey samples. However, this will be the company’s first large batch of jerseys. Unforeseen obstacles could definitely arise, but the wheels of production are already rolling. There is no doubt that the jerseys will be made and delivered to backers. Potential setbacks could arise with delays in the various points along the production chain.
If we’re lucky enough to have a wildly successful Kickstarter campaign and the initial stock of jerseys are snapped up by early backers, those supporters pledging over the goal could potentially have a delay of up to 12-15 weeks while a second run is initiated. However, if we find ourselves in this fortuitous situation, those backers would be made aware and kept up to date. An enthusiastic initial response would trigger action sooner rather than later.
Furthermore, if the first batch of jerseys happens to sell out or nearly so, instead of reproducing the same collection, we may opt to create a second line with new designs. In this instance, supporters would choose a jersey(s) from the second collection. We would make this situation known in the campaign updates.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
