The Mercury Sourcebook, a Sourcebooklet and Four More Adventure Stretch Goals Announced!

Posted by Angus Abranson / Chronicle City (Creator)

Hello everyone!

We've just added a whole host of new stretch goals on the front page of the campaign which should keep us busy for a while (partially prompted by my soon-to-occur vanishing act to Gen Con ;p)!

We have a brand new planet sourcebook to compliment the VENUS one we unlocked a few days ago - this time we're travelling to MERCURY - another planet in the Space: 1889 universe that hasn't been very well explored in previous editions until now. The below descripiton about the MERCURY Sourcebook is actually a little longer than that on the front page as we discovered that there's a maximum amount of words we can use there (thus the nice new boxed image detailing all our pledge rewards that has appeared on the front page, allowing us to keep offering you stretch goals!).

We also have the first 'Sourcebooklet', hopefully a series of 32-page mini-sourcebooks on different aspects. We've managed to recruit John Snead to write the first one for us entitled "Wonders of the Martian Past".

We've also unveiled four brand new adventures by industry stalwarts Gareth Hanrahan, Uli Lindner, Sarah Newton and Andrew Perergine which we hope you will enjoy.

Here's the full scoop...

LOCKED £46,000 - Sourcebooklet 1 (32 pages) - "Wonders of the Martian Past" by John Snead ( Exalted, Changeling: The Lost , and Mage: The Awakening, & Eldritch Skies). Descriptions of ancient Martian technology, including for information about how and when it was created as well as details of various ruins containing valuable and sometimes dangerous devices. This supplement will also contain a write-up of an ancient & long-buried city now ruled by a mad Belgian Count who is using a wealth of scavenged technology for evil purposes. You can learn more about John Snead at: http://www.johnsnead.chaosbutterfly.net/

Every pledger for the Digital Rulebook Plus and the Rulebook Plus onwards will receive pdfs of this sourcebooklet for free as soon as it is available.

LOCKED £50,000 - THE MERCURY SOURCEBOOK! The German Space:1889 team is currently working on a sourcebook for Mercury, which is scheduled to be released early in 2014. The whole planet will be described on approximately 128 pages, completely with landscapes, special places, creatures, scenarios, artifacts and archetypes. Some of the latter could be especially interesting for backers of the kickstarter, since some of them have been reserved for the creator pledge level. The team is looking forward to working with the backers to create some cool and unique archetypes. :-)

But what is Mercury exactly like in the Space:1889-universe? The planet is a world of extremes, with one side perpetually facing the sun and the other lying in eternal darkness. Between these to sides lies a narrow strip of temperate lands, through which a planet-circling waterway flows - called the world river. Here lie some small colonies and outposts of the earthly powers, although there is only little interest in small Mercury. Mars and Venus look much more compelling, but there is growing interest in the vast resources of the planet. Especially the riches of the boiling desert of the Hot Side, like molten tin and lead, or the frozen ammonia of the Dark Side could yield profits beyond compare - if you could manage to traverse the deathly wastelands of the extreme faces of Mercury ...

Every pledger for the Digital Rulebook Plus and the Rulebook Plus onwards will receive a pdf of this sourcebook for free as soon as it is available.

LOCKED ADD-ON £50,000 - THE MERCURY SOURCEBOOK PRINT EDITION! The Mercury Sourcebook will become available as a purchasable black & white softcover add-on for backers, who will be sent it ahead of the general retail release! This will be added to the 'Add-Ons' section below when unlocked!

LOCKED £53,000 - Adventure (32 pages): "The Strange Land" by Gareth Hanrahan (Mongoose Traveller, The One Ring, & Night's Black Agents). Lord Feltam-Hithe, a noted explorer and adventurer, returned from the Red Planet with a Martian boy. The alien child was the talk of London, as Martians on Earth are still a rarity. Now, Lord Feltam-Hithe has come to you with a delicate problem - he has lost his Martian. The boy has escaped onto the streets of London, and you must find him before he causes any embarrassing trouble. Gareth's Blog: www.milkyfish.com

Every pledger for the Digital Rulebook Plus and the Rulebook Plus onwards will receive pdfs of this adventure for both 'Space 1889 Ubiquity system' and 'Savage Worlds Red Mars' for free as soon as it is available.

LOCKED £56,000 - Adventure (32 pages): "Murder on the Aether Express" by Uli Lindner (Das Schwarze Auge (The Dark Eye), Dungeonslayers, Deadlands). An illustrous crowd has gathered for the maiden voyage of the Ether Express, a new luxury liner travelling from Earth to Mars and offering the passengers all the splendor and extravagance of the imperial age. But what is the reason for the strange happenings on board, culminating in the death of one of the VIP travellers? It's up to the characters to find out and to calm down the tensions growing on the ship.

Every pledger for the Digital Rulebook Plus and the Rulebook Plus onwards will receive pdfs of this adventure for both 'Space 1889 Ubiquity system' and 'Savage Worlds Red Mars' for free as soon as it is available.

LOCKED £59,000 - Adventure (32 pages): "Godslathe" by Sarah Newton (Achtung! Cthulhu; Mindjammer; Monsters & Magic). From an ancient Canal Martian 'talking book' traded in the bazaar of a distant city state comes an ancient legend - of a lost temple in the mysterious polar regions which once guarded the secret of the Warrior in Gold, a great hero or artefact which once united the scattered peoples of this dying world. Is it still there, in the frozen lands? And what is its secret? An eccentric professor emerges from the desert, half-mad with visions of great unearthly machines... Has Godslathe been found? And can Her Majesty's Armed Forces secure it for the Empire, before the Kaiser or the Czar steal it for themselves? http://sarahnewtonwriter.com

But amidst the absinthe and ‘joie de vivre’ there is a darker side to the city. A visit to the theatre to see a renowned Martian opera singer embroils the adventurers is a dark plot to uncover a global mystery, and an ancient secret. @MidnightBlue, here is an interesting quote that can be read both ways, depending on what you consider the greater good, a true double-edged sword: " Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin" James 4:17.

@Terrence Historically, the game never touched on the worlds past Mars. They were too far to travel to with the technology available to the humans. As Wikipedia put it:

The inner planets reflect an evolutionary progression, the planets nearest to the sun being younger than those farther out. All planets have life, and most bear native sentient species. Mercury is primeval, tide locked and possesses only rudimentary lifeforms. Venus is a vast swamp world dominated by hulking reptiles and lizard men.[1] The Moon is an airless dead world, but with mysteries hidden deep beneath the surface. Mars is an ancient desert planet in decline, divided into warring decadent city-states clinging to a failing system of canals. Vulcan has died and become the asteroid belt. Due to limitations in technology the outer worlds remain unreachable and unexplored. There are also hints that some worlds may have terrain hidden beneath their surface.

Whether they do more or not is unknown, but in all likelihood, the three planets (four if you count Earth) will offer plenty to explore and develop. Especially with the SourceBooklets they're coming out with.

      I hear you Matt.

That very problem is actually putting a damper on THIS kickstarter for me. I want all of these books!

      But the funds are dwindling...

I seriously hope there aren't any more Kickstarter games this good coming out this year! I won't have any money for them.
