October progress report
We're nearing the end of October, so I'd like to give you a progress report on What's That Spell. I am in the midst of preparing puzzles and props for the solve-at-home version, as well as the bonus puzzles for all backers. Here's what you can expect in the near future:
My top priority right now is getting the props ready to send out next month. I learned a lot from making props for the live version, but stepping up from 40 live teams to over 300 solve-at-home backers will take some work. My goal is to send out the first sets of props on November 21-23, and finish sending the rest out on November 28-30.
The next priority is sending out the puzzles for What's That Spell. I'm making a few changes to the puzzles from the live version, and I need to set up my website to handle answer verification and other details. I want most solvers to have the props in hand before they receive the puzzles, so depending on the progress I make with shipping the props, the puzzle hunt will be digitally released somewhere between November 25 and December 3.
The bonus puzzles should be easier to manage, since each one is self-contained. I have already sent out many of the bonus puzzles to my testsolvers, and I am pleased with the quality and variety of the submissions from my guest constructors. The delivery date of the bonus puzzles will partly depend on when I send out the puzzle hunt. If the puzzle hunt is delayed until early December, I plan to send out the bonus puzzles in November, to give solvers something to work on in the meantime.
Lastly, there is the bonus puzzle hunt. I am working with the constructors of the bonus hunt to edit and revise their puzzle drafts, and I think they are progressing nicely. I expect to send out the bonus hunt in late December or early January.
And that's where things stand at the moment. If you have specific questions about fulfillment of the puzzle hunt or the bonus rewards, don't hesitate to contact me.
