Last year, Littles from 30 states and 3 countries gathered in Bethesda, MD for TK Jingles LIVE 2017 : The Desolation of Song, the third annual "jinglefest!!" That event was intended to be the last chapter of a trilogy of live events spanning VA, DC, and MD. However, due to overwhelming demand, we've decided to do it a fourth time!
This Kickstarter will raise money for travel/hotel for the performers along with a number of venue & logistics costs. Little Songs (formerly known as "TK Jingles") has never profited from these kickstarters & all money goes directly to these events and the Little Songs Website!
In 2018, we're bringing the "jinglefest" back to Virginia at Jammin Java, named by Paste Magazine as one of the “Top 40 Music Venues” in the country! Don't let the odd name fool you. Jammin Java isn't a coffee shop, it is a fantastic live music venue!
Saturday, June 23, 2018, 7pm - ???
Implausibly Alive will be held on the same day as years past, the Saturday between Father's Day & July 4th. We'll start at 7pm and go until 11ish or whenever Littles grow tired of the music & wander into the streets of Vienna. Jammin Java will remain open as long as folks want to hang out so the celebration can continue into the wee hours of the night.
WHAT TO EXPECT
The "jinglefest" is 50% concert, 50% social event, and 50% comedy show. Put it all together, mix in some Gary Math, and you get 100% awesomeness!
We will feature roughly four hours of music, trivia, comedy bits, videos, and more. If this Kickstarter is successful, all the usual Littles will perform: Kj Ohnstad, Jason Fuse, Joe Aro, Robert Berg, John Fitzpatrick, Steve Lipton, Sean Morrissey, Luke Overbey, Shad, Patrick Moffett, & more!
And in an exciting twist, our booker somehow managed to sign a deal with BRAD WEISS!! Brad will be in country & will perform a riveting medley of some of his greatest hits!!
Please keep in mind that this event is unofficial and not affiliated with The Tony Kornheiser Show. We've been very fortunate to have the unwavering support of folks like Gary Braun (who has attended all three previous shows!!) and last year David, Jeannie, and Liz joined us in Bethesda. As always, all members of Tony's show are invited and welcome to join the event. But since this is an unofficial event, you should not make your travel plans with any expectations other than meeting Brad Weiss. And honestly, that should be enough.
This will be a ticketed event and we are limited to 225 tickets. A few of the higher tier reward levels will receive free general admission tickets. All other Kickstarter backers will receive access to a ticket pre-sale link which will be made available once the Kickstarter is successfully funded. Tickets will be sold through TicketFly. If this Kickstarter exceeds its goal, excess funds will be used to lower the final ticket price before they go on sale. Last year, I had to do some last minute fundraising to cover venue costs so I'm doing my best to make all fundraising a one & done!
ABOUT THE REWARDS
I'm printing new & improved shirts this year. Two new designs are available ("Little Songs" and "Implausibly Alive") and both are available in two styles, MENS and WOMENS. Shirts are 50/50 American Apparel cotton/poly blend. If you purchased the "Hamiltony" design, these shirts are made of that same soft & enduring fabric. The legacy TK Jingles swag is great but these new shirts are better and won't get stiff after multiple washings.
We will also have a DIGITAL AUDIO RECORDING of this year's event available to all Kickstarter backers. So even if you can't attend the event in person, supporting this project will give you access to a professional live "concert" recording. You'll receive a free download link as soon as the audio files are edited and available!
Last year, Littles really liked the destination event setup of having things at a hotel. While we aren't going to be in a ballroom this year, I reserved a block of rooms at the Tysons Corner Courtyard by Marriott (2.9 miles from the venue, $84/night). If we exceed our Kickstarter goal & have excess funds, I will arrange for a shuttle between the Courtyard & Jammin Java to run periodically before, during, and after the show. The Courtyard by Marriott is within easy walking distance to the Greensboro Metro Station on the Silver Line which gives you easy access to the city if you want to do some sightseeing.
Our agenda will be a bit looser this year but there are two events that I am definitely coordinating. The first is the live event on Saturday night. The second is a swag bonfire on Sunday morning. Per my agreement with TK earlier this year, all legacy TK Jingles swag must be destroyed by July 1, 2018. So whatever isn't sold by the end of the live show will be collected in a box and thrown into a firepit at a local park in the Vienna/Tysons Corner area. I'll bring some hot dogs & other light food/drink items and we'll have a little cookout before folks head out of town. Other than that, I'll continue to refine the following agenda of meetup events so that Littles can socialize throughout the weekend:
FRIDAY, JUNE 22, 8am - Podcast taping & Breakfast @ Chatter*
FRIDAY, JUNE 22, 8pm - Drinks @ The Palm DC
SATURDAY, JUNE 23, 12pm - Lunch @ Chatter
SATURDAY, JUNE 23, 7pm - Implausibly Alive @ Jammin Java
SUNDAY, JUNE 24, 11am - The Desolation of Swag, a bonfire @ a nearby park
* - TSS, LLC schedule permitting
I thought last year was the end of this. Between the issues with the name change & the overall hassle of trying to find a venue that didn't want $30K upfront, it was a lot of work to put on an event that doesn't generate any income. But the weekend turned out to be a blast and the number of Littles who approached me and insisted that we do this again was pretty incredible.
Regarding the location: I am ecstatic about this venue choice! In previous years, Jason Fuse, Steve's brother-in-law, random college guys, Penn Social new-hires, and other randos have put the event together ad hoc and were often running cables & performing sound checks until 15 minutes after the show was supposed to begin. Last year, I ran all the music & video cues off of my cellphone, meaning I had to pay attention to every moment of the show and had very limited time for interacting with folks and enjoying the event. If we successfully fund this project, I look forward to handing all of those duties off to the pros! Jammin Java provides a full professional services team to run the show, man the audio equipment, staff the merch booth, and more!
Also, since we're at a club and not a hotel we will avoid cheesy things like drink tickets & catering minimums. Order the food & drinks you want (there's a dinner menu & full service bar) and the folks at Jammin Java are just happy to host you & have your business!
I'm launching this Kickstarter much earlier than usual because I'd like to have everything finalized early on so that we can focus on putting on a fun event weekend and not money & logistics. With your help, we'll be on our way soon!
Risks and challenges
This is the fourth year we're doing this so we have the hang of things. We are good to go!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
