While we cannot update a reward box once it has been backed, we updated the reward description at the bottom of the main section with the included components.Last updated:
What is the difference between these two options: EARLY BIRDS Assembled/Tested, 3D & Laser ($600) and Assembled/Tested 3D Printer & Laser Cut ($700)?
There is absolutely no difference between a $600 Early bird version of the Assembled/Tested 3D Printer & Laser Cut and the $700 version. If you are early enough to catch an early bird, you get a $100 discount on this assembled kit.Last updated:
Other than the wood box and carrying bag that comes with the $900 (Kickstarter Limited Edition (Make 100), is there any difference in the construction and quality of the DSKY compared to the $600/$700 options?
No difference in quality/construction ever. We make everything as best as we can. If you don't need the serial number/plaque, certificate of authenticity, the hand-crafted gorgeous solid mahogany wooden box and the custom embroidered bag along with the extra (un-announced yet goodies we always throw in), then the $600 Early bird is your thing.Last updated:
a) Does the DSKY run essentially the same computer code as the original unit built for Apollo? b)What language is the code written in? c)Do you provide the source code that your replicas run?
a) No, we replicated as many Verbs, Nouns, Programs as possible without Saturn V engines, retro-boosters, Radar, Cryo-tanks, etc.
b) C+ is the native Arduino language.
c) Yes, everyone gets the source code (maybe even get alternative versions) which allows the community to tweak their unit at will (and share if they want).Last updated:
Roughly how many different input / operations can be performed that give unique outputs? what the range of inputs are and what sort of computations (if any) are performed to produce various outputs?
Inputs are many: The RTC provides a very accurate clock, the IMU gives 6 degrees of freedom of Yaw, Pitch, Roll, acceleration in any x,y,z direction. The GPS provides even more accurate time and Longitude, Latitude and Altitude data. The MP3 player just allows you to call up any sound clip or sound byte or soundtrack you put on the Micro-SD card. As an Open Source project, you will be able to code this device to process these inputs in any which way you want.
The provided code(s) currently ONLY gives 3 Verbs, 3 Nouns and 3 Programs, however we have collaborators and are ourselves working hard at making this set of Verbs, Nouns and Programs as big and elaborate as possible. Of course, without a Saturn V rocket, retro-boosters or a Radar, these Verb/Noun combinations will have reasonable limits.Last updated:
So does the unit actually have the ability to receive GPS and estimate it’s location (lat, lon, alt) and orientation yaw, pitch roll? Do you have any detailed documentation (user manual) that described the current capabilities that is posted on-line?
Absolutely Yes and Yes! This is already currently implemented in the MVP (Minimum Viable Product) demonstration software and is part of the first 3 basic Verbs, Nouns and Programs. Have a look at opendsky.com for more info and of course, our instructable (look for Open DSKY) that details how we did it.
We are currently writing the detailed documentation ("Open DSKY for Dummies" User manual) which will be in the same format as our very popular "Open Enigma for Dummies" User Manual. I can send you the Open Enigma ebook, but the Open DSKY won't be finished written until we have finished writing the production software.
If there are ANY Verbs/Nouns/Programs that you absolutely want implemented in the production code, now would be a good time to let us know so that we can make sure to include your specific requirements if we can.Last updated:
