WHAT IS NIDO?
Nido means "nest" in spanish. Nido will be an inviting space for the local community to come and enjoy delicious, fresh, farm to table Mexican food and drinks. The space will be a synergy of the urban, industrial characteristics found in Oakland and the softer organic side of the nearby agricultural communities. Much like birds create a nest, we too have created ours by sourcing building materials locally and repurposing them to create a unique aesthetic that resonates Jack London Warehouse District and East Bay.
WHAT WILL YOU FIND ON THE MENU?
Every item on the menu will be made in house daily using local, organic (when available) and sustainably conscious ingredients. Menu items will feature hand made tortillas for the daily taco selection. Cemitas (cousin of the Torta) will feature chicken from Mary's Organic Farm and other proteins from Preferred Meats. All seafood will be sourced and supplied by Berkley's Monterrey Fish Market. Weekend brunch items will be complemented by Petaluma Farms fresh eggs and dairy, as well as delicious bread baked by Firebrand Bakery in Emeryville.
WILL LIBATIONS BE SERVED?
Upon opening our doors, Nido will have a 41 license that will allow our patrons to enjoy great local beers and wines as well as some classic Mexican imports. This allows us to have some fun with sparkling wines, Sangrias, Micheladas and other beer /wine inspired cocktails. The application has been submitted for a full liquor license so lets keep our fingers crossed and stay put for an update!
WHERE WILL YOUR DONATIONS GO?
Your donations will immediately go to completing the construction of the restaurant. We've contracted Eli Spear from EESpear Design Build (Make Westing, Hops &Hominy, Churchhill, Public Works) to design and build out the unique bar and dining space. Some of the challenges with the location is that it needs a wheelchair ramp, a second bathroom and of course a tremendous facelift! Because we are creating a shared cooking and retail space to feature local talents, we need to invest in a much larger refrigeration unit and extensive kitchen equipment. We believe in keeping it local therefore have commissioned a local furniture maker to customize our tables and benches. Lets not forget hiring and training a full staff to efficiently assist you with a quick lunch, memorable dinner and fun brunch experience.
WHEN CAN YOU SHARE IN THE NIDO EXPERIENCE?
We are aiming for a soft opening in late September, but predict to be in the full swing of things by October! Since we take pride in our establishment and care about you- our guest and friend, we will initially focus on executing a solid lunch menu and will gradually expand to brunch and dinner. Remember, Nido is here for the long haul, so we want to take our time in making sure that everything is well crafted, perfectly executed and fun!
