About this project
The Floating Theater will produce The Magical History Tour, a site-specific history based musical to be performed on Manhattan by Sail’s Clipper City Tall Ship Harbor Cruise. The Magical History Tour will be directed by Gaye Taylor Upchurch, with music by Christian Gibbs and book and lyrics by Andi Stover.
The Clipper City is a 158- foot long tall ship with masts and rigging reaching up to 120 feet off the water. It is a steel replica of an 1854 schooner and the tallest sailing vessel in New York. This majestic schooner sails from the South Street Seaport.
This production will take place in a market where there are 49 million visitors yearly, as well as a metropolitan population of 22 million people. It can be seen as both theater and a tourist attraction, and is unique to the area. This show can easily be adapted to other cities in the future.
After our staged reading last November, and attracting rave reviews and interested investors, we are now ready to produce the next step -- 10 Workshop performances on board the Clipper City. This all-important Workshop will launch the show on its way to a full production in the summer of 2013.
Our Workshop will be fully produced with a Broadway-caliber cast and musicians, authentic costumes, sound, choreography, and swashbuckling pirate fights. We will accomplish all this for a remarkable budget of less than $80,000, if we have your help and with additional funds from the investors we've cultivated.
Please consider a pledge, large or small to help launch this new showboat.
Explore the legend and lore of New York Harbor, America’s gateway to greatness, through the scheming treasure hunting of Sadie the Goat and her gang of river pirates. These time-traveling pirates search for riches but instead encounter historic New York figures and realize the true treasure lies in the indomitable spirit of New York and its inhabitants.
This one-of-a kind theatrical event will appeal to tourists taking in the sights, families seeking enjoyment, New Yorkers looking for a new experience and culture addicts yearning for history. Based on rigorous research and a commitment to authentic New York stories, the show will create a meaningful experience within a pleasurable, uplifting afternoon of entertainment that touches the heart by reminding us of our shared past.
