WHO? The Pad Pouch was designed by a student with the idea of a better, more creative way to carry his ipad everyday.
WHY? Why not carry the tablet on his chest facing out while his backpack was slung over his shoulder? This made use of his normally dark display screen while he walked the halls. His backpack become a digital tee shirt, limited only by his own creativity.
Beyond offering a creative, digital canvas, the Pad Pouch adds a secure way to carry your tablet around hands free. Parents can see right away if their student has their tablet with them, and it offers protection in a neoprene sleeve behind touch-screen capable plastic protection.
Americans have had a T-Shirt affinity for decades. Now, a "digital tee" with a blank tablet is a reality in a practical, easy to use back pack.
HOW? After submitting for a patent on the idea and receiving a US Patent Pending from the USPTO (#29/452,983) and many rounds of prototypes and manufacturers meetings... the Pad Pouch has now come to life for students, and anyone who wishes to have a backpack while carrying their tablet a little more creatively.
The Pad Pouch is manufactured through a US based manufacturer with off shore fabrication options. The Pad Pouch app will be available to incorporate customized animations, however, personal creativity is the key for Pad Pouch users. With the tablet viewable on the chest through a touch screen sensitive TPU plastic, users can simply create their own images to display on their chest or add their own creative touches in customization apps.
The Pad Pouch sleeve is shown in the video fitting an ipad with a protective skin around it comfortably, but multiple tablets will easily fit in the protective sleeve and provide users the same creative way to carry their tablet and backpack at the same time.
The Pad Pouch product is being produced now for retail distribution in December 2013. A kickstarter pledge will get you a Pad Pouch and help us determine pre-production interest, as well as further develop the animations within the Pad Pouch app.
Risks and challenges
Our main challenge is judging consumer demand to appropriately fund and coordinate manufacturing lead times. We have ordered the first bulk production run for delivery in December 2013. This will happen regardless of our Kickstarter success. We were not able to get multiple colors of backpacks into the first production run, so it will only be available in black this year. The kickstarter program is helpful in that it will allow us to measure pre-production interest. This will also help us to start offering multiple models/colors faster to the public.
Our production timeline looks like this:
Patent application filed in March 2013 and accepted by USPTO with Patent Pending # issued in April 2013. Prototype design and beta testing April - September 2013. Pad Pouch Version 1 is now signed off on, and scheduled delivery of the first production run will be in early December 2013.
Our tasks now include adding more options to the Pad Pouch app, which will give users more dynamic animations to display. Also, we can begin to offer the Pad Pouch in multiple colors. The Kickstarter campaign will help us bring these tasks to market quicker and it will enable us to size our first production run appropriately.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
