The Refuge is excited to expand its ability to advocate for farm animals with the construction of an on-site Education Pavilion. This pavilion will be used for a wide variety of educational and outreach activities including:
- Documentary screenings
- Educational speakers
- Yoga, meditation and other wellness activities
- Food-based classes and events
Camp Compassion, the annual children's summer camp program, will make great use of this space and will be able to expand enrollment capacity. Additionally, by offering the pavilion for community and individual rental, we will continue to strengthen our organization's financial stability by increasing the diversity of our revenue streams.
The overall design and final details of the pavilion construction will be executed by our barn architect, Paul Drake. Paul's time and expertise will be donated, enabling all of the funds to go directly toward building materials and paid labor to erect the structure. The design of the pavilion will be consistent with the other structures at the Refuge, therefore displaying a focus on functionality blended with a modern elegance. With an emphasis on environmentally friendly choices, the design will make use of reclaimed materials and will include a composting toilet system. The design will also consider the relationship of the building to the natural systems on our land including sun exposure, prevailing winds, hydrology, and natural shade elements.
What We Need To Get It Done
We are thrilled to announce that all contributions toward this project are being matched dollar for dollar by an anonymous donor! Our project costs consist of both materials and paid labor to complete the pavilion, totaling $100,000. This fundraiser will be the first in a series of efforts to raise the entire amount required. Please help us get underway, and show your support for farm animals by donating to our Education Pavilion today!
In addition to your donation, please help us spread the word by promoting and sharing our campaign with others in your social circles. To learn more about the Refuge and the important work we are doing, please visit our website at: www.piedmontrefuge.org

More About Piedmont Farm Animal Refuge
Piedmont Farm Animal Refuge, or the Refuge, works to rescue and provide a permanent safe haven for farm animals. Located on a beautiful 20-acre site in Pittsboro, North Carolina, the Refuge currently serves as a home to over 100 rescued chicken, turkey, goat, sheep, and duck residents. Educational tours at the sanctuary, children's learning opportunities, and free vegan cooking classes are just a few of the experiences we offer.
The new addition of an on-site Education Pavilion will be a vital resource enabling the organization to increase its capacity to touch even more minds and hearts with its message of compassion. We would like to thank everyone who has supported us in our previous barn raising campaigns, and invite you to help us continue our work making positive change for farm animals and our community.
Piedmont Farm Animal Refuge is a 501c3 non-profit organization.
Risks and challenges
As with most construction projects, the building of our Education Pavilion will be met with challenges related to weather and availability of paid carpenters, plumbers, and electricians. The Refuge will work diligently toward the goal of having the pavilion ready for use in 2019. With many large construction projects already completed on the grounds of the Refuge, our team is confident that our pavilion plans will proceed smoothly.
We have successfully held four previous crowd-funding campaigns for the construction of our Chicken & Turkey Barn, Goat & Sheep Barns, Duck & Goose Barns, and Small Animal Clinic. In each of these campaigns we either met or exceeded our goal. We are very grateful for the support of our community and we are looking forward to building the Education Pavilion with your help.
