Introducing the Rhodes family...
We’re the Rhodes family.
We’ve inspired (and taught) thousands of people to grow their own food through our daily YouTube videos.
Last summer we wrapped up our biggest project to date, “100 days of Growing Food”, in which we grew 75% of our food in just 100 days.
NOW, we’re launching our BIGGEST project ever…
“The Great American Farm Tour.”
As teachers (and learners) in the sustainable food movement, we couldn’t think of a better way to serve our audience than travel America featuring the greatest sustainable backyards, homesteads, and market farms.
We’ll tour the farms, follow along on the chores, and work on special projects.
We’ll see ALL kinds of livestock, meet a crazy number of cool people, eat from an untold number of gardens and explore vast wildernesses.
For years we’ve dreamed of converting an old school bus into a custom RV to accommodate us while we travel, and today, our dream has become a reality.
We’re wrapping up the finishing touches on our school bus conversion, prepping for the journey, and planning to head out in early February 2017.
What’s the Tour Gonna be like?
Watch our video, “Greenhouse PIGS,” to get an idea of what a day of our tour will be like:
We're Taking YOU With Us!
Option #1 - Follow our daily adventures on our YouTube channel. We’ve been uploading (free) daily videos every day for nearly a year (and we don’t plan on stopping).

That’s what this Kickstarter is for.

Just a few of the Places We’re visiting
The Prairie Homestead (Wyoming) - One of the 1st people that we found when researching our family cow (milk cow). We look forward to meeting this family who’s living the homesteading dream in the open pastures of the prairie.
Paul Wheaton (Montana) - Known as the “duke of permaculture” or even “the bad boy of permaculture.” With a reputation like that, you know this visit will be super exciting. PLUS, he’s part of one of the few permaculture communities on the plant and has a specialty in rocket mass heaters.
Fresh Eggs Daily (Maine) - Lisa’s a wealth of information for backyard chicken keepers who are looking for more natural approaches. She was featured in my 1st movie, “Permaculture Chickens,” so we look forward to working with her again (in the beautiful state of Maine).
Polyface Farms (Virginia) - Probably the greatest farm in the world. A gold standard for more natural market farming.
Rob Avis (Canada) - When I saw all that Rob could do with a small yard in this documentary I knew he had to be a stop on our tour.
Curtis Stone (Canada) - Another great example of growing a lot in small spaces accept Curtis has developed a system to farm several yards in the neighborhood while making a handsome profit.
Diego Footer (California) - This podcaster (permaculture voices) has become a good friend, and is willing to showcase his small chicken and garden system in beautiful San Diego.
Jack Spirko (Texas) - Besides being one of the most popular podcasters (the Survival Podcast) in the field, Jack has become the authority on regenerative duck farming. I look forward to seeing 1st hand how he manages a profitable duck farm while restoring the land.
Marjory Wildcraft (Texas) - This lady wants homegrown food on every table more than anyone I know. And, her jam-packed homestead (chickens, rabbits, gardens, trees, etc…) will be an inspiration to all.
Weed 'em and Reap (Arizona) - We’re looking forward to visiting our fellow Youtuber who’s thriving with goats, chickens, and gardens in the near impossible climate of Arizona. Shows that anything is possible.
Homestead Honey (Missouri) - This DIY off-grid homestead is a must-see and will be inspiring to ALL.
Roam Sticks (Missouri) - This is an amazing grass fed pork farmer who's willing to think outside the "box" and create a thriving jerky business. Oh, and I backed their Kickstarter. Their pork jerky is delicious :)
Better Life Together (Texas) - Not only do these up and coming YouTubers have what it takes to blow up on YouTube they're taking you on their journey to escape the rat race.
Grass-fed Homestead (Idaho) - It's rare to find a farmer raising 100% grass-fed lamb, let alone someone who's implementing permaculture principles with their flock. I can't wait to see if Dan can put us over the edge for getting sheep in our future.
Primal Pastures (California) - An amazing story of how some "average" people quit their jobs and starting grass-based farming (full time): Chickens, Sheep, Pigs and a Cow.
Natural wonders - Of course, we’ll be visiting our biggest teacher… Mother Nature. Especially, the national parks and other wild places.
Attractions - Come on now, we do have very young chiddlers (2-9). So, we might have to stop by lego land and mermaid world ;) This probably won’t make the documentary, but we’ll include it in the Youtube videos.
YOU - Yes, you. We’re featuring folks just like you. You see, I believe the greatest “farms” in America are the ones right outside of people's doors :) Want to be a stop on our tour? Watch this video.

Why We Want Your Help
Adventures are always better with friends ;) No seriously... Filming and uploading daily videos (while on the road) requires a reliable, mobile media studio. Funds raised will go towards the following:
- Film equipment
- Mobile media studio
- Reliable, off grid power (generator and solar)
- Internet devices (and unlimited data plans) to stay connected.
- Help with the general costs of video productions.
Thank you for your support. We couldn't do any of this without loyal fans like you :)
Risks and challenges
It is always possible that our trip get delayed due to unforeseen circumstances. In that case, we'll continue to keep our audience updated through our daily Youtube videos.
We plan to travel for the entire year. If there's an unseen reason that we can't, we would have Youtubed the adventure and we will produce the documentary with what we have.
We will do our best to shoot, edit and upload a Youtube Video everyday. The purpose of this campaign is to help make that happen with appropriate equipment. If for some reason, we aren't able to film, edit or upload we will inform our audience through Facebook posts. If we just don't have access to the internet, we will upload that video when possible (even if it's late).
We will set to work on the documentary when the tour is finished. It's hard to tell exactly how long that will take, or when exactly, we'll wrap up. I estimate a 3-month edit on the feature film, once we settle down.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
