AIKO - The sustainable, versatile jumpsuit for every woman (Canceled)
AIKO is a sustainable jumpsuit brand focusing on season-less, versatile jumpsuits made to embrace every woman’s body type.
I grew up feeling very self-conscious about myself. Whether it was my small eyes or petite pear shape frame, I never thought I was beautiful or skinny enough simply because I was different from what society sees as beautiful. I remember during high school, I stood up to a bully who hurt my friend's feelings for calling her a disabled person because of her appearance. I knew how much those words could hurt and scar someone even if it was "just a joke". Since that day, I vowed to make a change the mindset of the women in my life, spreading positive vibes and reminding them that they are all beautifully special.
AIKO which means loved girl in Japanese is a start-up sustainable jumpsuit brand which focuses on season-less, versatile jumpsuits that are made for the Asian fit, while solving every woman’s jumpsuit nightmare – peeing issues. We want our consumers to feel like a loved girl when wearing our meticulously crafted jumpsuits, hence the name AIKO.
What makes our brand different is that you can build their own jumpsuit by choosing different sized tops and bottoms while mixing and matching different colours. We understand how all women are beautifully different and that not everyone will fit in the generic sizing or even share the likings of pre-matched colours.
AIKO is sustainable in a way whereby our production is limited and we only offer one product. With only one jumpsuit, you will be getting multiple looks from it by flipping the top from the back to the front, detaching the top and bottom to create separate pieces. Our sizing can also be easily adjusted to fit different body types. We want our consumers to buy less and buy better by offering them a sustainable solution with our versatile jumpsuit.
This project is a live school project with the theme of sustainability, in which AIKO focuses on limited production and one item for several uses. The funds raised for this project is aimed to fund my fabric sourcing trip and designing more prototypes to find the best materials and create the perfect fit for every body type.

Risks and challenges
Time is one of the biggest challenges for this project as manufacturing the jumpsuits may take more than a month. As a newbie on Kickstarter, creating this campaign on a school deadline was stressful and challenging due to multiple issues I faced during the set up. However, despite these challenges, my nature of being well organized and planned has helped me overcome those steps before the due date.
Another challenge is definitely perfecting the right design while matching it to the right fabrics. The fabric used on prototype shown in the video was slightly thicker than anticipated in which we had to make some tweaks to the drafting. However, I intend to work with professionals to source for better quality fabrics which compliments the design well.
Market uncertainty was one of the risks I feared most as my brand only offers jumpsuits which makes it very niche. Despite that, my market research was very well received and many mentioned that they were glad finally someone paid focus to Asian sizing and shorter clothing.
As mentioned, this is part of a school project. Therefore if the project is well received, I will only be able to go forth on further product development research after my graduation in the end of June 2018.
With a determined heart to create something meaningful, I believe that I will be able to overcome these challenges.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
