Performa/Dance, a project-based company cofounded by Jennifer Hart and Edward Carr and based in Austin, Texas, is pleased to announce its inaugural show featuring the choreography of Ms. Hart. Performa/Dance seeks to nurture and support new, creative voices in contemporary dance, enriching the Austin arts community through the connective, transformative, and transcendent power of dance.
An award-winning choreographer, Hart was commissioned by Ballet Austin to create a new work for its 2014-15 season. She received a fellowship from the New York City Ballet, was an Austin Critic’s Table Award nominee in 2013, and has set her work on companies across the country. In her first full-length evening of choreography in Austin, titled IGNITE: Three Works, Ms. Hart will present choreography spanning the last seven years. The evening will feature guest artists from Ballet Austin, Ballet Austin ll, and independent dancers working in Austin.
We are raising money through Kickstarter because there is nothing like crowdfunding as a way to directly engage and excite audiences, friends, and family about the work we're doing. By donating to Performa/Dance, you will be helping to support and develop a small, new company. We believe there is great value in paying dancers, as they have put in many years of training in order to master their craft and share it with audiences. In addition to production costs, your investment in this project will help pay our dancers, and any funds raised past our goal will go directly to the dancers.

Risks and challenges
The risks and challenges of this project fall into the area of the unknown, and include attracting and building an audience for a formative dance company. We’re asking people to invest in this project to help enrich the Austin dance community, further the development of this company in particular, and increase the visibility of Jennifer Hart’s choreography.
We have assembled a well-regarded ensemble of professional dancers, musicians, marketers, and a production team to help make this show successful. With the recent recognition and commissions that Hart has received in Austin and throughout the U.S. this past year, we anticipate excitement by the media and local audiences.
