Bitcoin Empire: To The Moon is a card game designed to help you understand the crypto market. The fastest growing market of the 21st century.
The fledgling blockchain industry can be cut-throat and brutal but this economic simulation game is much deeper than your average 'Take That!' game. It's packed with subtle references to real life news stories so it's a great way to introduce your friends to crypto-currency in a light heated and educational way.
In the game each player grows an empire collecting bitcoins. Build exchanges to increase your wealth but be careful as other players will attack you with lawsuits, smear campaigns and hacks if you don’t develop the skills or political leverage to defend yourself. At the end of the game, the player with the most bitcoins (represented by face-down cards) wins the game.
The game was created by graphic designer and web developer David Thomas. David is an early investor who traded his life working at some of the biggest digital agencies in Europe to follow his passions of board games and bitcoin, the currency of the future.
Bitcoin changed my life and gave me the financial freedom to focus on work that I really enjoy.
So if you're into card games or bitcoin or moon landing conspiracy theories, please help me make this game a reality.
I know you’re going to love it.
PLAYING WITH MULTIPLE DECKS
When we play tested the first edition, some people felt like one game was pretty quick to play (around 10 minutes). So we’ve added moon tokens to collect as players win games. We call this playing To The Moon and it takes about an hour to play this way. We also have lots of friends that enjoy playing with multiple decks. Shuffling decks together gives you more time to build your empire and you can add four extra players to the game for each deck you mix together. To order multiple decks, just add £15 for each extra deck you’d like.
HOW TO PLAY
You can also read the rules on the official Bitcoin Empire website.

THE BITCOIN EMPIRE STORY
The 2014 documentary The Rise and Rise of Bitcoin got me interested in bitcoin and the story of crypto-currency fascinated me. I thought that this would be a fun subject to parody.
Then I had the idea of a card game where each player becomes a famous bitcoin personality and bitcoins are represented by face down cards. I started drawing on decks of poker cards with a permanent marker and created a collection game that was no fun at all. The game needed to reward players for developing their character and punish players for ignoring skills and greedily collecting bitcoins. When the three attack cards, Lawsuit, Smear Campaign and Hack were added, Bitcoin Empire was created.
The history of bitcoin is loaded with conspiracy theories. From the identity of Satoshi Nakamoto to the events at Mt. Gox. It can all get a bit heavy but I want to keep it fun and light heated. So let’s celebrate all of this skullduggery with the mother of all conspiracy theories. The moon landing!
HELP ME BUILD THIS GAME
I wanted to put this project on Kickstarter because it’s the fastest way for me, as an independent publisher, to get the game into your hands.
Bitcoin has been a community effort ever since Satoshi published the whitepaper in 2008. So it’s only right that the Bitcoin card game have the same community support.
So, if you like the idea of a squid in space studying law, please back this project and help us build this game.
Big big love,
We can deliver to a radius of 237,000 miles! That’s a moon joke for you.
Shipping costs are very reasonable. The production costs are low enough that VAT shouldn't be a concern. We wish that we could provide free shipping, however the low price point of the game means we have very little wiggle room for costs. We’re able to ship the game worldwide for just £6.
I would like to support retailers who are interested in getting Bitcoin Empire: To The Moon before the game makes its way into distribution. If you're a retailer, please send me a message here on Kickstarter, or email email@example.com during the campaign for pricing information.
Risks and challenges
It’s relatively straightforward to produce a card games. I have many years experience working with printing companies in the UK and China so I understand the procedure and I’ve never had any major problems. The biggest challenge for me would actually be if the game sold many many thousands of copies. I’m working with some well established board game manufacturers and fulfillment companies to make sure that no matter how many people pledge, everyone gets their Bitcoin Empire games quickly after the campaign ends. We really don’t want to be a campaign where you spend the next two years getting fifty emails about production updates and delays. If you back this project, we want to be sure you can start playing as soon as possible. Support our project and in return we'll send you the playable game.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
