Engauge will be on the PC, Mac and Linux!
Engauge is an action-adventure game inspired by the ambience and presentation of games like Bastion and Dark Souls, conveying story through tone.
A rich narrative is woven as you explore a cruel yet vibrant world.
The world of Engauge hums with life and activity. From the Mechanical Cities to the Rocky Sea Cliffs to the Hushed Jungles, civilization has taken root and given rise to diverse groups with unique cultures.
In this vast world, you control a detached and powerful enigma, a construct known as X1S.
You lead the android X1S through a search of his past as he fights to return to the normalcy that has been shattered.
Engauge is designed around tight controls and platforming.
The mechanics consist of running, jumping, wall-jumping, defending and using primary and secondary abilities.
Primary and secondary abilities are determined by items known as cores. Cores can be equipped and swapped out to create unique playstyles.
Currently, there are seven cores planned for Engauge.
Besides cores, Engauge also features:
- Jumping/Ability Puzzles - Take a break from the roil and toil of combat to complete ability puzzles. Use your abilities and platforming skills to overcome obstacles and solve the puzzles.
- Collectibles - Pick up an array of curious objects throughout your journey. Read their descriptions to discover the mysteries of the world around you.
- AI Interaction - Engage enemies in meaningful combat as you adapt to their fighting styles and exploit their weaknesses.
- Hidden Items - Discover hidden items nestled throughout the nooks and crannies of the world. Your exploration can lead you to ability-cores, special collectibles and a variety of vanity items.
- Special Events/Enemies - Trigger special events by exploring the world. Hear quirky conversations, face tough foes and even uncover the Legend of the Iron Gauntlet.
At Toastie Republic, we want to bring Engauge to life with hand-drawn backgrounds, fluid animations and enemy variety.
Evolution of Engauge
Over the past few months, Engauge's art has changed dramatically.
The main character alone has undergone more than four redesigns to ensure he provides the best smashing-and-bashing experience for players.
Along with the main character, Engauge is still evolving, as we work every day to improve its quality.
Starting with an idea, we create concept art and go on to craft in-game assets.
All enemies emerge from a single goal: to design lean, intelligent enemies that keep players on their toes.
We have been developing Enguage out of pocket because we believe it is a worthwhile project.
We want to create a truly high-quality game with professional art and sound, so we need the help of the community.

A core consists of two key mechanics, like attacks, for Engauge's main protagonist.
Design old-fashioned, elemental-themed mechanics or newfangled, techno-themed mechanics. It's up to you!

Risks and challenges
Visuals, sounds, music and narrative are crucial in creating a cohesive and varied experience. However, these assets can become expensive quickly.
With a baseline of 50k, we will be operating with a slim margin of error. Every asset and area will become a significant financial commitment. In the long-run, we will have to decide which assets to polish and what aspects of the game to prioritize.
Fortunately, we're well-prepared for actual development. We know what to expect from our freelancers, and we trust them to do a great job. Over the past year, we've refined our workflow and built great infrastructure.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
We're not sure yet!
Honestly, We'd like to port Engauge to XBone, PS4 and maybe the Vita or Wii. It probably won't be a stretch goal since we're planning to port regardless of how many funds we get.
The only thing we're unclear on is how to get Engauge into Microsoft/Sony's stores. From a tech standpoint, we're already designing Engauge to be easy to port. We also went out of our way to design controller-friendly controls so the game should control pretty well on console.
Tl;dr - I can't say with 100% certainty that there will be console releases, but that's the end goal
