TÌR - A new album of Highland life & lore by
TÌR is a musical and visual project lead by Highland based duo Brian Ó hEadhra & Fiona Mackenzie. We have collected, written and are currently recording songs from the Highlands dealing with both traditional and contemporary subject matter which is still relevant to life in the Highlands today.
When we were writing the songs we drew inspiration from our rich Gaelic folklore as well as contemporary matters which we, as Highlanders, feel passionate about; land reform, engaging with our environment, questioning of authority and life, love and loss.
There will be twelve songs on the album and it will be co-produced by acclaimed producer/musician/composer, Mike Vass.
Below is an audio file of a demo we did for the album. It is called "Beannaich a Triath nam Flath Fial". The words are from the folklore collection Carmina Gadelica and the music by Brian.
We have recorded most of the album with Keith Morrison from the Wee Studio in Stornoway on the Isle of Lewis. The album will be mastered by Pete Fletcher at the new Blackbay Studio in Bernera, on the west side of Lewis.
The visual element of the project is important to us and we are really excited that behind every track will be a specially commissioned illustration drawn by Inverness based artist Rachel Cush of Crafty Marten Art.
We've started this Kickstarter campaign to allow us to complete the project including the mastering, design, manufacturing, promotion and distribution. Check out the awards we are offering for your pledges (including CD's, downloads, artwork, lessons, dedicated tunes, exclusive concerts and more)!
We hope that you be interested in backing this project and maybe you'd consider sharing this information with your own friends and family who may be interested.
Ceud taing airson ur n-aire agus tha sinn an dòchas gun còrd a' chlàr ruibh.
Thanks so much for your interest and we hope you enjoy the album when it is released later this summer.
Risks and challenges
We have recorded much of the album with Keith Morrison and Mike Vass and confirmed the commission of artwork by Rachel Cush of Crafty Marten Art. The inlay designer Graficanna has been contracted as has Broadbay Studio for the mastering.
The album will be manufactured in July and launch in August 2018. The online promotional material and videos will be uploaded as the project progresses.
As we have recorded and released numerous albums in the past, we feel that we have the mix of skills and expertise to bring this project to fruition.
We have received project funding of £5,000 from Creative Scotland towards this project. We are providing thousands of pounds in-kind as well as a considerable amount of our own cash to make the whole project succeed.
The £2,750 sought from this Kickstarter campaign will pay for the final mixing, mastering, design, manufacture of the CD's, the promotional campaign and launch of the album. If we are lucky enough to raise more than the target then we will use this to make the whole package even more appealing, reach wider audiences and promote further the work of all the partners involved in the project.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
