When I wrote a Craigslist ad a couple of years ago, I was calling out to any musician who had felt in his or her heart that music was their passion - anyone who wanted to make rock music their profession, and hadn't found the right project, yet. I was sitting in my living room, unemployed, hoping on a whim that someone would read that ad, visit my absolutely amateur YouTube videos of me singing and playing my songs, and *gasp* like them enough to want to join a band.
Never in my WILDEST dreams did I ever imagine what Fortune would grant me! Along with my childhood friend, Sean-David (who plays violin in SJ+TM), I found complete strangers on the internet who instantly became some of the most important people in my life. We eagerly got to work on songs I'd written and magic started to happen. With the help of the creative minds and spirits of the entire band, these ideas I'd plucked from my imagination started to bloom into full-fledged beasts - and every audience we have played to took notice. We've gotten some truly humbling praise since we've started performing, and it became quickly obvious that we needed to get something recorded.
The issue was always the same - we simply couldn't afford what we wanted to accomplish. So we've spent the past couple of years cutting our teeth and building a fan base. We played as many shows as we could fit in, including battle of the band competitions, where we eventually met up with our drummer, Ross Liberti.
It's been just over two years, and we've had a blast. We're just about done with our first studio album, and we're hoping it's the "shot heard 'round the world". But we need your help, and even just a little bit goes a long way. The money we raise would help us:
- Pay our music producer for all his hard work helping our music come to life,
- Make beautifully packaged, professional CDs and also get us on iTunes, amazon.com and other online retailers,
- Create press kits to send our CDs out to radio, music publishers, labels and management firms who might be interested in us.
We hope that our rewards will make contributing to our album something personal. It takes a lot in this day and age to put your money where your mouth is and we want to let you know that we're so very grateful that you believe in us and the music!
This band has been a dream come true, and we're honored to have people who care about our band's journey. We're excited to take our next steps in our career - and we simply couldn't have done it without you!
Yes, our website is down. The best place to go is www.reverbnation.com/sylvanajoyceandthemoment where you will find music, video, upcoming gig info, and more. The two other places to go are our Facebook Page (www.facebook.com/sjandthemoment) and our Twitter account (@sjandthemoment) for more updates and fun stuff.
Well, the way Kickstarter works is that if we don't hit the target amount by the deadline, then all the backers who have donated will be given a total refund - which means we won't get any of the money raised.
So, if you're a contributor and want your gift swag, or you're someone sympathetic to the project and want to see us succeed, please spread the word! :)
