What is a prototype?

A prototype is a preliminary model of something. Projects that offer physical products need to show backers documentation of a working prototype. This gallery features photos, videos, and other visual documentation that will give backers a sense of what’s been accomplished so far and what’s left to do. Though the development process can vary for each project, these are the stages we typically see:

Proof of Concept

Explorations that test ideas and functionality.

Functional Prototype

Demonstrates the functionality of the final product, but looks different.

Appearance Prototype

Looks like the final product, but is not functional.

Design Prototype

Appearance and function match the final product, but is made with different manufacturing methods.

Production Prototype

Appearance, function, and manufacturing methods match the final product.

About this project

Electrical energy can hardly be stored in interconnected networks, but can only be distributed between the producer and the consumer. The power producer must be balanced at the same time with the same power consumer. If deviations occur, this leads to a change in the mains frequency in alternating voltage networks.

Too much energy in the network increases the mains frequency, too little energy decreases the mains frequency.

The mains frequency is thus a direct quality indicator of the relation between generation and consumption.

The power difference can be derived from the mains frequency using a mathematical function. It corresponds to the primary regulating power of the electric power grid.

Measure the mains frequency and primary control power of your power supply.

Watch electric power balance and detect balancing oscillations.

Elektrische Energie kann in Verbundnetzen momentan kaum gespeichert, sondern nur zwischen Erzeuger und Verbraucher verteilt werden. Der abgegebenen Leistung muss zu jedem Zeitpunkt eine gleich große Leistungsaufnahme gegenüberstehen.

Kommt es zu Abweichungen, führt das in Wechselspannungsnetzen zu einer Veränderung der Netzfrequenz: Bei einem Überangebot von elektrischer Leistung kommt es zu einer Steigerung der Netzfrequenz, bei einem Unterangebot zu einer Absenkung.

Die Netzfrequenz ist damit ein direkter Qualitätsindikator über die Relation von Erzeugung und Verbrauch.
