"I am only one, but still I am one. I cannot do everything, but still I can do something; and because I cannot do everything, I will not refuse to do something that I can do." ~Edward Everett Hale
This project, For the Love of Humanity, is the "something that I can do." And after seeing Kickstarter's Projects of Earth campaign a few weeks ago, it inspired me to take an idea and make it bigger than I had originally imagined it to be.
The idea began back in February of this year when I was in absolute despair over the state of the world. I remember asking myself what could I do to not only help ease the suffering of others, but my own as well.
Out of these scribbles came a more clear understanding of how I want to help people. I wanted to create something that would remind us of our goodness, our kindness, our humanity. Something that helped us remember we are at our best when we help one another. Something that helped us heal.
In this crazy, beautiful world of ours, we sometimes forget that we all just want to love and be loved. We want to be happy and make others happy. We want to do good. This project's purpose is to help us humans remember these things and to act on them.
I'm a writer so I created a website with the domain name that I immediately purchased when I saw it was available - www.fortheloveofhumanity.world. I'm also a card freak and creativity geek so I designed a deck of twenty affirmation cards, had one hundred sets of them printed and gave them away to friends to keep as well as to pass along to others.
Each card has a beautiful image with a few words of inspiration. On the back of each card is the website address. My "original" idea was to have the cards offer an inspirational message on one side and an invitation on the other side to visit the website and then share the story of how they came across the card and how it made them feel. The new decks we create with this campaign will still include these features.
The cards are still very much a part of what this project and what For the Love of Humanity's website is about, but they're not the most important part.
The most important part of this project is our stories - humanity's stories that remind us of our goodness, our kindness and our compassion for our fellow human beings.
And so the original idea of our cards being the inspiration to share one's story on our website has expanded into the idea of "No matter how it was you found our website and whether or not you received one of our cards, the world needs to hear your stories."
For the Love of Humanity's website provides a safe and beautiful place for people to share their stories of good deeds and kind gestures whether they've been on the receiving end or have been the giver of one. It is a place to feel moved and inspired by others' stories. It is a place to experience our own humanity. It is a place for all us to heal.
There are no comments to approve or disapprove of. No trolls leaving unkind remarks. No discouraging or distraught news. There are only stories that make us feel for what another human being feels. There are stories of love and of loss that connect us in some way to our own life experiences. Through the sharing of our stories, we begin to remember we are not so different from each other and we're all in this together.
For the Love of Humanity's "goods" (the ones that we're creating with your help in this campaign - three affirmation card decks, t-shirts and totes) will not only promote the idea that...
Good Deeds and Kind Gestures Make the World a Better Place
...but they will help spread the word about the website as well. Great products are wonderful to make and share with others. Great exposure of ideas inspire people. For the Love of Humanity wants to do both. We've launched this project to help us fulfill these goals and we timed it now to coincide with Kickstarter's Projects of Earth campaign.
If there is one thing all seven and a half billion people on this planet share in common it's this - we're all human beings. That's a fact. Here are two other facts all of us share:
- We all breathe the same air.
- We're all mostly made out of water
These were a few things we considered when one friend's painting was turned into our logo by another friend. Thank you, Judith Hall and Raven Tahara!
We could tell you plenty of stories why there's a circle in our logo, but we figure you have your own stories about what a circle represents for you. We love how it looks on a t-shirt and a tote. We think you will, too!
Now that we're on the topic of rewards...
There is plenty of 'Love Bling' to choose from at different contribution levels. If you feel moved to support our campaign, we are grateful for any amount you can give and we promise you will be happy with your rewards.
Here are descriptions of the three affirmation decks with the kind of messages we'll be creating for each of them. Depending on the reward you choose, you'll have your choice of deck or you'll receive all three. There's also a reward level where you can contribute your own words and a photograph you've taken that will be a card included in one of the decks!
Should you decide you'd like to contribute to the campaign at the Love Warriors level, we wanted to share a couple photos of the bed and breakfast you'll be staying at.
It's a lovely place to relax. It's a relaxing place we'd love to share with you for a few days.
I encourage you to take a look at For the Love of Humanity's website to read more about what we're creating there. If you believe the telling and sharing of our stories has the power to help humanity heal, we invite you to tell your own story and share it on the website. If something about our project moves you to become a backer, I thank you in advance for your generosity and your kindness.
Do a good deed and make a kind gesture every day in some way. It does make a difference. You make a difference. And it does make the world a better place.

Risks and challenges
The only risk I can foresee is taking on something that could become a much bigger and ongoing project than I first imagined it to be once the Kickstarter campaign is complete. I've had time to consider my current work and life commitments and I am ready for whatever happens in this campaign. I will fulfill backers' rewards on time. I'm devoted to this project being successful and to being a passionate advocate For the Love of Humanity.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
