"Ice hockey club the Manchester Phoenix have been forced to set up a supporters trust in order to gain funding to complete the season.
The club were forced to leave their previous ice rink in Altrincham at the start of the summer and have had to play their home matches in Deeside during the current campaign.
It has meant fans, sponsors and investors have all found it difficult to support a team based in North Wales, having huge financial implications on the club.
That has put Phoenix in major trouble, and owner Neil Morris is hoping they can gain backing to try and get back on track with their plans to return to Manchester next season in a brand new arena .
“We know that we need to get back to Manchester next season and the demand is high from our fans and sponsors alike,” he said.
“The re-location this season has hit us hard and I’m not hiding that fact, but the new arena can still happen and it will be great for the Phoenix and the Manchester economy.
“We need help to make it to the end of this season at Deeside, though, or we won’t be able to make coming home to Manchester a reality."
This is the bulk of an article from the MEN Sport earlier this week following the rumblings and announcement that my local hockey club the Manchester Phoenix were struggling financially. After the owner of the club - Neil Morris - tugged some heartstrings and broke the news to the fans mid-way through their game on the 6th Dec I decided I needed to do what I could to help.
A relative newcomer to the sport I've been following the Phoenix since the 09-10 season when a friend dragged me to see them and to be honest, I've been obsessed with ice-hockey since. I've had some amazing times and met some amazing people in the last 5 or 6 years and I owe it all to this sport and this club. I know I'm not alone when I say that. This club means so very much to so very many and it would be a crime to let it go without a fight.
SO using the motto of the fans which seems relevant now more than ever I give you the PTID (Phoenix 'til I die) merchandise.
All profits from the sale of these items will go toward helping the club. Please chip in what you can and help save our Phoenix.
Risks and challenges
If we don't hit the funding target, your money will not be taken so there's that.
In terms of production of the merchandise I will keep you updated at every step of the way. Fingers crossed it should all be very straight forward but if anything does go wrong you can be sure I'll keep you in the loop.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
