We are 26 creative writing students based in the North East of the UK, who, with their tutors, have been searching for a long time for an anthology of original source material for use in Creative Writing courses.

When we couldn't find a suitable collection of original poetry, prose, drama and non-fiction that students and their tutors worldwide could use in the class room, we decided to produce one ourselves to help our fellows wherever we could in the world.

With a foreword to this noble endeavor by Lady Heather Ayckbourn, wife of one of the world’s most famous contemporary playwrights, this anthology is a must for students and their tutors everywhere.

The book asks you, the reader, and user, to see if the stories we have weaved within these pages fit neatly into the idea that there are only seven basic plots in the whole history of storytelling.

Here is a collection of poems from sonnet through sestina, ghazal, haiku to free verse. Here are short stories, drabbles, travel writings, non-fiction works, interviews, discussions, biographies, reminiscences, diary extracts, drama.

Some of the writers have become internationally acclaimed authors  with works translated across the globe, others are beginners in their craft; it is this mix that allows students to be guided to what is most effective in style, in form, in voice.

There is a commentary on Christopher Booker’s Seven Basic Plots idea and there are tips from tutors on the art and craft of writing and publishing.

We aim to publish this book as a quality paperback tome worthy of anyone’s book bag.

To do this we need your help. By pledging to fund a book to publication together we can help other students all over the world, including in developing countries, to become great writers and recorders of their times. Maybe they can become world changers through an increased ability to write powerfully. It starts here. Please help us to launch this book successfully and see this book onto student’s desks all over the world.

Risks and challenges

Our main worry is being hugely oversubscribed. This is a good problem to have but will mean a second print run with possibly a short delay on delivery. We hope that if this happens pledgers will be patient: it is a two week re-print time we are told. We will have 250 copies immediately available if the project is successfully funded as we have already produced the proofed draft ready to go once funding is secured.
