Memorable – funny – designs for citizen cooks, on aprons and tea towels. That’s my core business.
There are a couple of competitors in my niche, in the sense that they print funny designs – but typically on flour sack towels. A flour sack towel is a square white towel, which is not as substantial as the tea towels which I use - which are rectangular in shape with cool racing stripes down the sides.
I want to expand into making aprons! Aprons are the quintessential tool for the citizen cook – in particular the Sunday Drive Designs cook!
My towels are currently featured on the Grommet

and Scoutmob and are selling like hotcakes!

I've had really great response to my Choice Cuts of Potato towel. I was featured in the LA Times Home and Garden section at Christmas time last year as well as on Swiss Miss design blog. Ever since I've had numerous requests to make aprons. And I think now is the time.
What I Need
I am asking for $3500. This will cover the cost of aprons, printing and any other small fees and any other unexpected things that may come up.
And here's a mock up of what the aprons will look like

And here's the 6 designs:

STRETCH GOALS!
If we hit the $4000 mark we'll print up our most popular towel on the Grommet - The Einstein Quote bike balance bike balance

And if we make it to $4500, we'll print up the Victorian High Wheel (aka the penny farthing) Victorian High Wheel Victorian High Wheel

Risks and challenges
Running a business always has challenges, but I’ve had several years of experience and am prepared to meet them.
I worked for one of the first e-commerce cosmetics websites (Eve.com), and this gave me an inside look at e-commerce and branding. My experience as a customer service manager (at Madison Park Greetings) and as the warehouse manager for Three by Three Seattle has given me a thorough knowledge of the wholesale world. Together, they’ve given me the experience I need in two functioning business models.
That being said, things happen. The main challenge is the aprons are not available when I'm ready to print. If that happens I will let everyone know as soon as I know. And the other challenge is getting all the rewards out in quickly. Which to me, is a challenge I want! It's also a perfect time to have a shipping party with all my friends and family.
My goal is to get them shipped out in December, but hey, things happen. So I set the date to January. Let's all keep our fingers crossed that the stars align and everyone can get their rewards in December!
NOTES ABOUT SHIPPING:
If shipping within the US, your shipping is on me!
If shipping internationally, an additional $15 will be added on to your reward level - I wish it were cheaper to ship internationally, but sadly it's not.
Also, international backers will be responsible for any additional customs (if there are any). Again, I wish there was something more I could about customs fees and shipping costs, sadly I can't.
